From google:

nickname from Middle English gode 'good' + enoh 'enough' (Old English genoh). Reaney suggests that it was bestowed on one who was easily satisfied; it may also have been used with reference to one whose achievements were average, 'good enough' though not outstanding.

Larry, as a defenseman, exeeded the spirit of his name.

If you plan to include nicknames, there was Brad (The Beast) McCrimmon.  Also, I think it was the Toronto radio broadcasters who referred to Vladimir Konstantinov as Vlad the Impaler.
