2021-2023 Updates:

5/4/2021:

List is LIVE on Reading's 2021 opening day (more or less)! I hope to continuously update this list with major league debuts and rehab assignments, and I will note updates here in the comments.

5/25/2021:

Jorge Bonifacio strikes out as a pinch hitter for Reading in the 7th inning. Bonifacio previously played for the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers. He was signed to a minor league contract by the Phillies organization the same day.

6/8/2021:

Luke Williams left Team USA to make his major league debut for the Philadelphia Phillies. He played in 125 games for Reading in 2019. Williams lead off the bottom of the 5th as a pinch hitter for Aaron Nola. He would reach first on a bunt single, advance to third on a throwing error by Braves pitcher Drew Smyly, and score on a Jean Segura double two at-bats later. The following day, in his first major league start, Williams hit his first major league home run in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, 1 on base, and down 1-0. He was the first Phillie in history to hit a walk off home run in his first career start.

6/19/2021:

Matt Vierling was promoted twice this week. Once from AA Reading to AAA Lehigh Valley on the 15th and again from AAA Lehigh Valley to the Philadelphia Phillies on the 19th. For the Phillies, Vierling got a pinch hit single in the 6th inning, stole 2nd base, and scored the Phillies' 8th run of the night on a Rhys Hoskins double. The Phillies would go on to beat the Giants 13-6.

7/27/2021: (Added 9/7/2021)

Rafael Marchan initially skipped the AA level having been promoted to the majors during the 2020 season where no minor league games were played. Still, Marchan managed to sneak in a game at AA Reading in 2021 after, for some reason, being demoted from AAA Lehigh Valley on July 27th. The demotion didn't last long however as Marchan was called back to the majors two days later after Andrew Knapp was placed on the paternity list. In Marchan's single AA game, he went 1-for-5 with a double.

8/3/2021: (Added 8/16/2021)

Not many knew of Tyler Gilbert until August 14th, including me, who even missed adding Gilbert to this list until I returned from vacation following that Saturday. Gilbert pitched for AA Reading in 23 games (all in relief) in 2018 before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for OF Kyle Garlick following the 2019 season. But even the Dodgers passed on Gilbert, leaving him unprotected for the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft allowing him to be picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization for the 2021 season. Arizona promoted him to the bigs for his MLB debut on August 3rd where he pitched a clean 8th inning, earning a hold, by getting Giants' Kris Bryant to fly out and striking out Austin Slater and fellow Reading alumni Darin Ruf. His first major league start came on August 14th where he threw a NO-HITTER against the San Diego Padres, becoming the fourth to do so in their first ML start, first since Bobo Holloman in 1953.

8/10/2021:

Damon Jones made his major league debut after previously pitching in just 4 games for AA Reading in 2019. Jones made his appearance in the top of the 8th inning against the Dodgers. After getting getting AJ Pollock to ground out to short he would allow a Chris Taylor single then give out consecutive walks to Cody Bellinger and Billy McKinney. Jones was consequently pulled from the game. Mauricio Llovera would escape the bases loaded jam but the Phillies ultimately lost 5-0.

8/31/2021:

Matt Joyce's next stop during his return from a lower back strain, after a few games at A Clearwater, was a rehab assignment at AA Reading. Through 5 games, the former all-star is 3-for-12 with a HR and 3 BB.

9/11/2021:

Connor Seabold was called up by the Boston Red Sox to make a start in place of the other pitcher the Phillies sent to Boston last August, Nick Pivetta, who was recently placed on the COVID-related IL. In his MLB debut, Seabold went 3 innings allowing 2 runs to the Chicago White Sox on 3 hits and 2 walks. Despite being pulled early, Seabold only had 43 pitches and his team was up 7-2. The Red Sox would fall behind quickly after Seabold's departure. But they would eventually break an 8-8 tie in the top of the 10th. And with the White Sox failing to answer in the bottom of the inning, the Red Sox won 9-8.

9/18/2021: (Added 10/2/2021)

David Paulino started a single game for AA Reading going 6 innings and allowing only 2 runs (1 unearned) on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Besides a single appearance for the Philadelphia Phillies on August 13th this year, Paulino previously played for the Houston Astros (2016-2017) and the Toronto Blue Jays (2018).

9/26/2021:

Hans Crouse, recently acquired from the Texas Rangers as the prospect in the Kyle Gibson + Ian Kennedy trade, was surprisingly promoted for his ML debut in the midst of the Phillies' playoff push. Crouse started the Phillies' bullpen game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Over 3 innings, he allowed 1 run, 4 hits, 4 walks, and struckout 1. His only run allowed came on his first ever ML pitch, which, after hitting the bat of Cole Tucker, ended up in the RF bleachers. In the crucial September game, the Phillies were shutout 6-0.

10/2/2021:

Kyle Dohy made his ML debut for the Phillies saturday night against the Marlins. Dohy entered the game in the 8th inning, his team down 3-1. He walked his first batter, Miguel Rojas, on 4 straight pitches and fell behind 2-0 against his next batter, Jazz Chisholm. He manged to get Chisholm to pop out but subsequently allowed a single to Bryan De La Cruz. Lewin Diaz then grounded into a force out for the second out and Dohy escaped the inning with his first ML strikeout against Lewis Brinson. The Phillies would not be able to score in the top of the 9th, Marlins won 3-1.

4/8/2022:

Bryson Stott, 2019 first rounder and Phillies top prospect, hit an impressive .419 in Spring Training this year which lead to a spot on the starting lineup for Opening Day, his ML debut. Stott's first AB came in the bottom of the 2nd, facing Oakland Athletics' Frankie Montas, which resulted in a lineout to CF. He would get his first ML hit in the 6th: a single off Jacob Lemoine (also making his ML debut) to load the bases. Stott was involved in a few fielding errors in the 7th but came back to get his second hit and first RBI off Kirby Snead in the 8th: an RBI double to score Jean Segura and make the score 8-5 Phillies. The Phillies start their season strong with a 9-5 win, their top prospect going 2-for-4 with an RBI and their two big FA acquisitions (Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos) going a combined 3-for-8 with a HR and 3 RBIs.

4/11/2022:

Simon Muzziotti made his ML debut as a defensive substitution in center field for the 9th inning. The Phillies just scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th to comeback 5-4 and Brad Hand was taking the mound for the Phillies to close the game. Muzziotti caught a fly ball to make the second out. The score ultimately remained unchanged and the Phillies beat the New York Mets 5-4.

5/9/2022:

Francisco Morales made his ML debut in the 7th inning coming in to relieve Ranger Suarez following his 6 shutout innings against the Seattle Mariners. He faced the minimum six batters over two innings, striking out two and walking one. The walk immediately erased by a double play ball. His first major league strikeout was against the first batter he faced, 2018's 6th overall pick Jarred Kelenic.

Cool list! Hoping to be able to go to a game or two this year. Went for the first time in 2019 and had a blast.
