Curse You, Michael Jordan!by bevans - 9 cards (Last updated on Mar 1, 2020) |
1. 1986-87 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan
I bought the second-last card I needed for this set (Charles Barkley) way back in 1993, so this set has been one card shy of completion for a record 27 years and counting. |
2. 1996-97 Stadium Club - Finest Reprints #24 Michael Jordan
This card is a reprint and still sells for upwards of $100 on the rare occasions one turns up for sale. |
3. 1999 Upper Deck Wayne Gretzky Living Legend - A Leader by Example #L5 Wayne Gretzky
I could have bought this card many times over if I was willing to pay $12-$15 for it. But I only paid $2-$3 each for the other five cards in this all-Gretzky set and I never wanted it badly enough to pay such a stiff premium for the last one. |
4. 2006-07 Fleer - 1986-87 20th Anniversary #57 Michael Jordan
Jordan was the only card I was missing in the 1986-87 set, so it's fitting he is also the only card missing in the 20th anniversary set. Asking prices for graded copies of this card run about $200-$300, and I have never seen a raw, ungraded copy for sale. |
5. 2008-09 Fleer - Living Legacies #LL-10 Michael Jordan
Yep, him again. Just imagine how many more Michael Jordan cards I would be missing if Panini were allowed to make them. |
6. 2008-09 Fleer - All-Star Sensations #AS-2 David Robinson
OMG! It's a basketball set missing someone other Jordan to complete it! |
7. 2011-12 Fleer Retro - 1987-88 #87-CL Christian Laettner
The 1987-88 Fleer set were the first basketball cards I ever bought - first ones I ever saw in fact - so this particular retro-themed insert holds special nostalgia value for me. |
8. 2013-14 Fleer Showcase - Ultra #29 Patrice Bergeron
Technically this isn't the only card I'm missing in this set, since I am not collecting the serial-numbered rookies. But Bergeron is the only one of the 35 veterans I'm missing. |
9. 2016-17 Hoops - Team Leaders #19 Paul George
I find it ironic that this set is just three years old and only 9 of the 30 "team leaders" selected still play for the same teams. |
