#1 - 270 Wins

Yes, Mike Liut: Winningest goaltender of the 1980s. Betcha didn't see that coming. I know I certainly didn't until I ran the numbers.

Liut never won a Vezina Trophy but in 1980-81 was a First Team All-Star and won the Lester Pearson Award for MVP as selected by the players. (The Vezina Trophy at that time was still a statistical award for lowest team goals against average.)

#2 - 236 Wins

Peeters is largely forgotten today but played at a high level throughout the decade. He went to the Stanley Cup Final with Philadelphia in 1980, won the Vezina Trophy in 1982-83 with Boston, and had the league's best GAA in 1987-88 with Washington.

#3 - 220 Wins

Well now, this is a more predictable name to see on this list. Fuhr won five Stanley Cups with Edmonton, won the Vezina Trophy in 1987-88, and was the starting goalie for Canada's triumphant 1987 Canada Cup team.

Traded to Toronto in 1991 after a year-long drug suspension, he bounced around the league for another decade with stops in Buffalo, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Calgary. He played 79 games with St. Louis in the 1995-96 season, which I believe is still the record.

#4 - 201 Wins

Lemelin split his career between Atlanta/Calgary and Boston. He played on three Stanley Cup runners-up (Calgary in 1986 and Boston in 1988 and 1990), played in the 1989 All-Star Game, and won the Jennings Trophy in 1989-90.

#5 - 198 Wins

Millen played for six teams in 12 seasons - Pittsburgh, Hartford, St. Louis, Quebec, Chicago, and Detroit. He played his best hockey for the Blues after coming over in a 1985 trade with Hartford (for Liut).

#6 - 189 Wins

Moog won three Stanley Cups with Edmonton but grew tired of sharing the crease with Fuhr in the regular season only to be relegated to spot duty in the playoffs. He sat out much of the 1987-88 season to force a trade, playing with Canada's Olympic team in the interim before finally ending up in Boston late in the season. The Bruins went all the way to the Stanley Cup Final that year before losing to, yes, Edmonton.

Two years later Moog and the Bruins lost to Edmonton in the Final again, with Bill Ranford - the player Edmonton received in exchange for Moog - winning the Conn Smythe Trophy.

#7 - 183 Wins

Wamsley won the first Jennings Trophy in 1981-82 as a rookie with Montreal, and won the Stanley Cup as Calgary's backup in 1989. He played 12 years in the NHL for Montreal, St. Louis, Calgary, and Toronto, and was part of two separate multi-player trades which saw Brett Hull and Doug Gilmour sent the other way.

#8 - 182 Wins

Smith won four straight Stanley Cups with the Islanders, the Vezina Trophy in 1981-82 (the first year it was a voting rather than statistical award), and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1983. He is credited as the first NHL goalie to score a goal, but was simply the last Islander to touch the puck before a Colorado own goal.

#9 - 165 Wins

Sauve played 13 years in the NHL, mostly with Buffalo. He shared the Vezina Trophy in 1979-80 and the Jennings in 1984-85

#10 - 155 Wins

Meloche suited up for the California Golden Seals, the Cleveland Barons, and the Minnesota North Stars, which might well give him the record for most defunct teams played for. He played in two All-Star games and went to the Stanley Cup Final with Minnesota in 1981.
