At least the '62 Mets have a legit excuse. An expansion team can be forgiven for the inaugural futility, especially when they win the World Series 7 years later. Hard to accept this from one of the original AL franchises. The accepted norm is that every team will win 50 and lose 50 and it's what you do with the other 62 that count. Pretty rough when you can't even get 50 wins under your belt.
@Lerxst2112 Your right. I forgot the '62 Mets were an expansion team.
I did happen to see the 2003 Tigers in person once, 7/11/03 vs Red Sox at Comerica. Boston won 5-3. I'm trying to remember, was Alan Trammell manager, or Luis Pujols? Seems crazy that three years later, the Tigers were in the World Series.
@switzr1 It was Alan Trammell
A painful year, to say the least. Loss after loss after loss, not even exciting baseball. Nice to see even a forgetful team remembered in this way. Some of the names that were only here for a short time. I felt so bad for Tram. He did have 2 slightly better years to follow, but that was it for him. Glad to see him back with the Tigers in a coaching-teaching capacity and working for the team. |
