Seven home runs.  Six complete games.  Besides Fitzmorris' CG, the other 3 starters in the extra inning games also each went 9+ innings.  Only one save recorded all day.

I think the Gibson card is the only one I own.  I came into this world the right way, with the Cardinals hammering the Cubs (Chicago won the next day).  I wonder if my Dad was listening to that game at the hospital.  He's also a Cardinals fan.  I probably had several family members listening, with some rooting for both teams.  They would have heard Lou Brock steal his 117th base of the season.

I love the 1974 Rookie Pitchers card because both pitchers from that game are pictured.

Among the pitchers with no decisions: Jim Palmer, Don Sutton, Ferguson Jenkins, and Rollie Fingers (in relief), all HOFers.

Rough day for HOFer Rod Carew.  He committed an error and got thrown out stealing.  Rookie George Brett had four hits in his game, which matched the output of the entire Phillies team.  Eventual AL MVP Jeff Burroughs had three hits, while NL MVP Steve Garvey had none.  The season ended five days later.  Ultimately, Alvin Dark's Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games for their third consecutive World Series Championship, a feat that has only been matched once since then.

Kinds love this list, even though you dis the Cubs. (They deserved it in 1974.) I've got all these cards, but the Spillner. Never loved the '74 set, but I'm still glad I have it. Some pretty good pitchers that day...

Love this. unfortunately I was born in December, so no love for my day with this concept. I guess I'll have to check hockey or basketball box scores. Fun look back at how pitching was not so long ago, before the data explosion.
