The All Edible MLB List

by AnalogKid - 66 cards (Last updated on Jun 27, 2022)

1. 1986 ProCards Lakeland Tigers #NNO Jeff Agar

A vegetarian gelatin substitute. News to me.

From C2Cigars

3. 1966 James T. Elder Postcards #708 Ray Apple

An apple in "The Big Apple"

6. 1982 Topps #307 Randy Bass

Seems a little fishy.

7. 1988 Topps #267 Billy Bean

Beans, beans are good for your heart...

9. 1991 Upper Deck #10 Sean Berry

He wasn't a berry good player.

10. 1974 O-Pee-Chee #17 Doug Bird

"Bird" is the word.

Hey, I ordered Pickles on my Hamburger.  Where are my Pickles

Mike Trout?  No, I prefer that famous Chinese dish, Dizzy Trout.

Very enjoyable list.  Now excuse me, I'm suddenly hungry.

Feb 6, 2018 - 1:49AM

I loved it.  Great list!

I didn't know there was a player named Cabbage.

Feb 6, 2018 - 3:22AM

Great list! But also, where is Goose Gossage? Sounds like some elegant French dish to me.

Feb 6, 2018 - 3:29AM

You also missed Laurin Pepper, who just passed away. The "In Memoriam" is the only reason I mention this player though. I had never heard of him before now. With only 7 cards, and most in the 1950's, it's not really surprising that I didn't know this person.

Feb 6, 2018 - 4:11AM
Billy Kingsley

That one made me laugh out loud a few times!

Feb 6, 2018 - 8:35AM

Loved Jello as a kid. Lemon jello was a great flavor.

Feb 6, 2018 - 10:05AM

Thanks for the comments, guys. I wanted to use just one player per food. There maybe 6 Trouts but Dizzy would have been a more interesting entry. Pickles Dillhoefer definitely gets added. How did I miss that one?

Feb 6, 2018 - 10:37AM

Looked at the list of Buckeyes, how about adding Jim Frey and Doc Reisling?  I found a bunch of others in other sports but then realized this is a MLB only list

Feb 6, 2018 - 10:44AM

Yes, one card entry per food item makes for a less cluttered list.  In reference to the Lemongello and Frey suggestions, are you looking for exact spellings of the food item?

Feb 6, 2018 - 10:59AM

If so, then Jace Fry probably makes the most sense since he has the most cards

Feb 6, 2018 - 11:51AM

Baggett, sounds like baguette, French loaf of bread
Basil, an herb
Almond, a nut
Agar, a vegetarian gelatin substitute
Bolognese, an Italian meat sauce
"Bone" and "Bones", I personally love gnawing on a steak bone
Burdock, yes an edible root, and I love burdock soda

Feb 6, 2018 - 12:49PM

And along with Basil is Pesto, a sauce/dip make from basil.

Feb 6, 2018 - 2:45PM

Good suggestions, C2! They don't have to be exact spellings, just close enough to resemble an edible.

Feb 7, 2018 - 8:41AM

Cacciatore, as in the Italian dish Chicken Cacciatore
Cakebread, not an actual food but it sure sounds edible
Capon, roosters used for eating
Conger, edible species of eel

Feb 7, 2018 - 9:11PM

Some updates from your suggestions.

Feb 8, 2018 - 9:34AM

Well done, Sir. Very enjoyable. I just can't/won't do the work you or C2Cigars will on this, but I wonder if Cookie Rojas has a card or two? Tha's all I got.
