My Completed Sets

by Billy Kingsley - 266 cards (Last updated on Jun 24, 2022)

121. 2002-03 Upper Deck #46 Gilbert Arenas

At 420 cards over 2 series, this is a Great set. UD really got it right that year, and I'm very happy to have completed it.

122. 1992-93 SkyBox #198 Alaa Abdelnaby

This one set is interesting in that I completed it on 12/25/13. For Christmas 2003, I received boxes of both series 1 and 2, and so I completed the set 10 years to the day after I did both boxes. The only 413 card set in the NBA's history.

123. 1990 Pro Set PGA Tour #100 Lou Graham

Last year a member of the Database gave me a factory sealed set of these...he was returning a Random Act of Kindness I had sent him earlier in the year (even using the same box that I mailed some stuff to him in!)

124. 2009 Press Pass VIP #29 Regan Smith

I actually completed this set back in 2009 when it was new...but I forgot to take note of the exact day or which card it was so I went with Regan Smith, the most recent winner from my home state.

125. 1996-97 Metal #229 Scottie Pippen

Completing this set, which I did on 4/8/14, is a big deal for me. Back in 1996-97 when this set came out I was very, very sick. The many visits to the doctor's office turned up nothing, they never could figure it out. I still have some lingering troubles from it all these years later. (On a plus side, the doctor's office was basically in sight of the local card shop, so most doctor's visits brought me new cards- my Mom has always known if she wants to make me feel better, give me cards). Well, my mom bought a box of Series 1 and every day I was able to make it to school, and make it through the whole day, she gave me a pack out of the box. I ended up 1 card short- card #1. I eventually got that card at a card show in the Dutchess Mall in Fishkill, NY. A friendly dealer broke a set he had for sale at after I inquired if he had any others from that set and told him my story. I wish I knew who he was, to say thank you- I never saw him before or since. With series 2 I never got a box, but I did do quite a few packs and got some more through the mixed boxes I love to purchase. But I was nine cards short. For Christmas 2013 I received an Amazon gift card, and I purchased all nine of the cards I needed through the Database's Amazon partnership. It took me until the first week of April to decide how to use my gift card, and when they arrived, this became my first completed set of 2014. It's a truly great feeling to have this set in it's entirety now. I did miss a few when I was sorting out my collection to prioritize my completed sets for scanning back in December, after all- the set wasn't complete then. I made the decision early to pull a few non-complete but still important sets for scanning, I must have gone past those three cards before I made that decision. With roughly 68,000 cards awaiting scans, I don't really want to go back through them all again to find those missing three, and the one or two others I missed from other completed sets. I'll get to them eventually :)

126. 1992-93 Upper Deck #378 Brian Howard

My third completed set of 2014, I received the last two cards I needed for this set as part of a trade with a fellow Database member on 5/21/14. Note: While I consider the set complete, I do not have all the variations on card #1, and I do not yet know which version I have of the two errors in the Slam Dunk subset. I know I only have one of each, but I did not know there were variations until I started posting to the Database, and they are mixed into my collection. I will find out eventually.

127. 2014 Topps U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team & Hopefuls #91 Tom Wallisch

This was actually the first set I completed in 2014. I forgot to enter it into the Database, I actually completed it while the Olympics were still running back in February. It my first completed Olympics set!

128. 1991 Topps Desert Storm #108 F-16 Fighter/Bomber

I got boxes of all three series, but even though I came up with a bunch of duplicates, I came up one card short on series 2. I got it in a trade with fellow Database member Sportscollector98 on 6/5/14.

129. 2013-14 Panini #116 Vince Carter

Kind of a milestone for me, as this becomes the first contemporary set completed in my NBA renaissance, which began at the start of the 2012-13 season. The last set I completed when it was a current set was 2005-06 Topps, back in 2005, so this one is the first in a long while. My mom and brother got me a box of this to celebrate my one year anniversary of surviving my health ordeal that almost killed me in 2013, but I came up 4 cards short. (I also got a stack of 22 duplicates from the box, frustrating!). I got a retail blaster box, 2 retail jumbo packs and 1 retail regular pack, and just got duplicates. (In fact, usually in the same order). So, the last 4 cards I needed were sourced through the Database's Amazon partnership. The last two arrived on June 16th, just one day after the season ended- but they are still current, as this is still in the 2013-14 issue window. Ironically enough, the last two I needed were OJ Mayo and Vince Carter- oddly coincidental as this card shows Mayo guarding Carter!

130. 1993-94 Fleer #378 Dennis Rodman

I always had a ton of these cards....Back when my brother got me 20 200 count boxes for my birthday in 1996 or 1997, I ended up having a stack of this set about 2 feet high, literally...I have a photograph to prove it, lol. But I came up one card short...this one. I got it via the Database's Amazon partnership, and it arrived in the mail on 6/30/14.

As a straight up baseball guy (who briefly dabbled in football and basketball-don't know where those went), it's fascinating to me what people collect. Nice list. V3

Set #1 is my favorite. I have 25 of those cards and hopefully will get the whole set one day. Great era of Monster Truck racing. Great list.

The trade with Billy for his last card to complete his 158th set was my first trade on the DB. Nice list Billy.

The Marvel Universe cards...I wasn't ever into comics, but most of the boys in my class were collecting these cards, so I did as well. Everybody was trading and working on sets...and chasing those holograms!

Man, Billy! I get excited about basketball everytime I read a list of yours. I didn't see 90-91 Skybox or Hoops as completed. Are they, but just not logged in?

Dave, most excellent!

Kin, still chasing those holograms myself!

Commish, I have not completed Skybox yet, but I did complete Hoops, I forgot to list it on here though!

It's surprising to me how very few of MY very few sets are in your list! In NASCAR, I saw 2010 Legends on the list. I pulled that whole set from one hobby box. 2009 Press Pass Racing, I still have an unopened factory set of that as a freebie from D&A Cardworld. 1996 UD Road to the Cup Racing, you just sent me the next to last card I need to complete that set about a month ago, but still missing that last one.

Where are the NBA sets that I actually own? I HAD the 92-93 sets of Skybox and UD until someone stole a bunch of my cards. I actually had almost every complete set released for NBA cards that season. I picked specific sets to replace the missing cards from those years and re-completed the full Stadium Club and Ultra sets. I kept/re-completed a few of the insert sets from various brands for that year too. BUT, I mostly traded away cards from anything that year to finish my Club and Ultra sets. I also have the 1994-95 Ultra set and the Series 2 set of 1997-98 Z-Force (loved that brand).

Back to the Marvel cards mentioned before, 1990 Impel Marvel Universe is the TOP non-sport set that I would love to complete! The holograms are RARE and I have 2 of them already. But I loved the design so much that I went after the 1991 Impel Marvel Universe set hard when it was released and it still took me 15 years to get the last two base cards I needed to complete that set. I completed the 5-card hologram set LONG before I completed the base set!!!

I haven't even mentioned my MLB/NFL complete sets or the other NASCAR sets I've completed. I generally don't go after complete sets, but when I get close enough or really like the set, I'll try to complete it.

That's the neat thing about the hobby, odds are nobody's collection will be exactly the same. If I had lots of money I'd complete a lot more sets, LOL!

I'm curious to see what my first completed Hockey set will be. I know I have two factory sets waiting to be opened so I could make it one of them pretty easily, but I don't want to do that just yet...

This is a very cool list Billy.  As very much a non-set collector I am always fascinated by the people who go after complete sets and how they go about competing them.  That is something I could never do, and that's ok.  My collection is on random, always has been always will.

Oh there's a ton of randomness to my collection. It's just really luck when I do complete a set these days!
