My Completed Sets

by bkim - 127 cards (Last updated on Apr 15, 2020)

12. 1963 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle

(sid/60).

Almost bought a 2nd Pete Rose Rookie that was a counterfeit. Dealer I normally bought from told me guy that was selling the card, was found to have a lot of them.

13. 1964 Topps #247 Dave DeBusschere

Started SEPTEMBER 1981 (sid/61)

STARTED MAY/JUNE 1964 to filling missing cards
Completed JUNE 1981
The Phillies are in 1st place. They going to win the NL Pennant. First year I bought cards took my money to go buy them from the corner store. I missed the first couple of series.

14. 1965 Topps #519 Bob Uecker

(sid/64).
Started March 1965.

16. 1967 Topps #600 Brooks Robinson

Spring 1971 (sid/).
Got 7th series via mail from vendor.
I believe he was Kit Young in San Diego.

17. 1968 Topps #100 Bob Gibson

NOVEMBER 1970 (sid/).
I read that piece of paper in the 1970 7th series shipment and he was offering other cards and stuff. This was listed so I sent money off for them.
Saved money, got a money order, addressed it and then waited.

18. 1969 Topps #14 Al McBean

Started MARCH 1969 (sid/)
Completed OCTOBER 1969
This was the first card on top when I opened first pack. I remember thinking "Who are the Padres?"

.First set I was able to order the 7th series from a dealer in California. Found ad in back of a "THE SPORTING NEWS" issue. saved up my money and ordered them. I think it was like $5 for the series.

19. 1970 Topps #1 World Champions (New York Mets)

Started MARCH 1970 (sid/).
Completed OCTOBER 1970
Again bought the last series from the dealer in CA. I was able to buy the first 6 series of cards wholesale as my sister worked for a wholesale dealer. 24 packs for 85 cents.

20. 1970 Fleer World Series #12 1915 - Phillies vs. Red Sox - Babe Ruth

Bought these during 1970 when waiting for the next series of Topps to come out. Gum was not as good as Topps' Bazooka gum.

I love lists like these. I didn't include inserts in mine, but I have not completed many inserts.

Nice list, except I'm clearly dense. These are completed sets of what, exactly? Not, I presume, the entire 1952 Topps set. So what is it you d completed. I'm missing something. Many things, probably.

Yes The 1952 set is completed.  Not the greatest looking cards but I have one of each. This set was started in like Sept 1981

The shop I bought from or national dealers offered discounts. of like 25 to 30 percent in the amount I bought in.

I was single  owned a house, No mortage,  and a great job in refining oil.

That's awesome. You should get all those sets listed in your collection here. Sounds like your full collection is very impressive.

I love reading and looking at things like this as well. Beautiful sets! I hope to be able to do something like this one day myself. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for sharing.  I enjoy seeing which sets you have completed and really enjoy reading about how you acquired them.  My acquisition story for most of my sets from the 80s would be boring:  "Purchased a factory set from my local card shop."
