I totally forgot about Dave Dravecky and what he went through. Gives me chills thinking about it now.

I really hate when injuries derail a players career. Most recently, Prince Fielder.

Um, Howard and Utley are both still playing. 36 & 37, respectively. They're both starters and I don't think either is retiring. How do they fit in this very nice list? V3

@RoundtheDiamond87, 17 and 18 seasons isn't exactly "cut short" in the case of Gehrig and Mantle.

How about Tony Oliva and Kirby Puckett?

The two men I immediately thought of are somehow not on your list!! Roy Campanella and Thurman Munson. Ryan Howard and Chase Utley don't fit the theme at all in my humble opinion.

I can't see Utley making this list, but Howard definitely does.

Alas, Jose Fernandez and Daryl Kile, both died at the heart of their careers.

If you're including players who died young: Yordano Ventura of the Royals and Oscar Taveras of the Cardinals.
