One you could possibly add could be Jose Altuve.
Ichiro would be a good choice for this list.
Thanks for the comments. Altuve is on the Hall of Shamers list for Astros trashcans. I forgot about Ichiro, thanks!

Don't know man, you lost me at Joey Votto in the honourable mention list.
Yes, I think in the end Votto gets in, and I hope he does, but he may have to go through several rounds of voting like Helton. Trying to keep the list to the most "sure-fire". He's a big name 1Bmen but sometimes big name guys are left out like Mattingly & Garvey.
| ||
Not sure I'd put Judge as a sure fire member either yet. He's already in his 30's, hasn't had a great health history, and may not have the body type that will stand up to a long career. He also got a comparatively late start in his MLB career (he became a full time MLB'er at age 25). He's had 3 very good to great seasons, but a lot of guys have that on their CV. His numbers right now, less than 300 Hr, less than 600 rbi aren't HOF worthy.
| ||
Good point. I can't believe he's only two years younger than Stanton. Stanton has HOF talent but just can't stay on the field. Judge may turn out similar. I think I'll put them both on the HM list. Thanks.
I'd probably put Manny Machado on the honourable mention list at least. He's 2 months younger than Judge has better career numbers than him right now and seems likely to hang on longer. He can be a bit of a hothead at times, but doesnt have any morality question marks I am aware of.
Good call. His WAR and JAWS are already up there and he still should have a good number of years to go.

Judge might end up as one of the most polarizing cases in history. Say he retires with 400+ HR (I can't see him getting to 500, he'd need 6 more seasons averaging 40 to get there, and I don't think he has that much ahead of him), less than 1000 RBI , less than 2,000 hits (virtually guaranteed, he's not even at 900 yet ) and no World Series. He gets no peripheral benefits on his baserunning, obp, defense (although he's better than you might think). Does he get in as one of the dominant home run producers of his time, or is he a more charismatic version of Dave Kingman ?

Might end up like Donaldson. He got a late start, dominated for some years, then started fading a bit to soon to really rack up the career #'s for HOF consideration. |
