Sets in my Collection, vol. 3: NBA

by Billy Kingsley - 105 cards (Last updated on Jan 10, 2022)

52. 1993-94 Fleer #245 Chris Corchiani

Complete! The 1993-94 Fleer set dropped down to 400 cards. It's an interesting design, as the name is actually not there- it's an open window to the photo beyond. Some of the teams have neon. This was one of if not the first set I completed via the Database.

53. 1993-94 Hoops #28 Michael Jordan

For some reason this year's Hoops set doesn't do much for me. I don't dislike it by any means, I don't have any negative connotations with it, it's just kind of there.

54. 1993-94 Jam Session #158 Litterial Green

For some reason, Fleer thought it was a good idea to bring back the tall card size that Topps has used in 1969-70 and 70-71. Fleer would actually produce more cards in this size than Topps would during Jam Session's three year run.

55. 1993-94 SkyBox Premium #62 Mark Macon

Complete! Skybox went to a shiny UV coating, and they have a tendency to stick on this set, damaging the cards.

56. 1993-94 Stadium Club #93 Jon Koncak

Stadium Club continues the full bleed photo theme but this year, the team name does not take up any space on the card front, and the player's last name is in gold foil.

57. 1993-94 Topps #46 Jerome Kersey

Complete! 1993-94 was a bit of a down year for set designs. Like Fleer and Skybox, the Topps set just isn't as interesting to me as the two before it. At 396 cards, it is tied with the 1992-93 and 1994-95 set as the largest Topps NBA sets ever.

58. 1993-94 Ultra #305 Anfernee Hardaway

I'm just one or two cards away from completing this one! Ultra's design for the second year was themed around a marble pattern. I like it enough, but now that I've seen the dark gray marble pattern used in the NHL set, I like that much better. A lot of the cards in this set have somewhat washed out, yellow tinted photos for some reason.

59. 1993-94 Upper Deck #338 Lindsey Hunter

UD goes to a glossy, slippery UV coated card, which they will use for the remainder of their time in the NBA. Complete!

60. 1993-94 Upper Deck Pro View #62 Chris Mullin

I don't like these very much. 3-D stuff gives me a headache. The proper set name is 3-D Pro View, not just Pro View. I have only one or two packs worth, and whatever I've gotten in trade/repacks. Of all the 90s sets it's one of the least well represented in my collection- and of major releases, it might actually be the least represented by percentage.

61. 1988 Kenner Starting Lineup Cards #3538117020 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

In 1988, Kenner entered the field of card production when they launched the Starting Lineup brand. I wasn't aware of them at the time though, in 1988 I began collecting cards...but not Sports cards. I have to wonder, now, how many of these I passed over on the store shelves when I was in the toy aisles for GI Joes and various comic figures? Probably a lot. They were very ambitious with the first wave- it was the largest SLU release ever, with 90 figures released! I have only 4 of the first year's cards...I have a few more of the figures that I bought loose over the years.
