The Card After

by domentho - 40 cards (Last updated on Apr 20, 2023)

1. 1989 Upper Deck #2 Luis Medina

This card has the notable distinction of following the #1 Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card.

Collectors might know this card because it was the #2 card and Upper Deck's very first set.

2. 1987 Topps #321 Mike Laga

This card has the notable distinction of following the #320 Barry Bonds rookie card.

The pink jersey is the only thing that screams for attention. Tough act to follow up after Barry, but this card doesn't try too hard.

3. 1985 Topps #402 Pat Pacillo

This card has the notable distinction of following the #401 Mark McGwire Olympic card.

Lame as heck. This dude's not even trying.

4. 1989 Donruss #34 Greg Harris

This card has the notable distinction of following the #33 Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card.

Greg Harris tried the purple border look as well. However, it doesn't hold much interest in comparison. I can't recall ever seeing this card, and I've probably seen it hundreds of times...forgettable.

5. 1984 Topps #9 Jim Gott

This card has the notable distinction of following the #8 Don Mattingly rookie card.

Love the blue uniform and the 'stache that would soon become Don Mattingly's inspiration.

6. 1989 Topps Traded #42T Kevin Gross

This card has the notable distinction of following the #41T Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card.

A very good follow-up to the Griffey. Great action shot in a blue Expos uniform.

7. 1990 Topps #415 Shawon Dunston

This card has the notable distinction of following the #414 Frank Thomas rookie card.

Shawon Dunston looks like a victim of the last-minute Picture Day card. Such a shame.

8. 2011 Topps Update #US176 Xavier Nady

This card has the notable distinction of following the #US175 Mike Trout rookie card.

Nice action shot and some facts about Xavier's uncle on the back of the card. Pretty cool name, too.

9. 1993 Topps #99 Mike Williams

This card has the notable distinction of following the #98 Derek Jeter rookie card.

Nice follow-through action shot worthy of a horizontal card. That's about it here.

Credit to TwinKiller for the suggestion.

10. 1952 Topps #312 Jackie Robinson

This card has the notable distinction of following the #311 Mickey Mantle card.

Hey, it's Jackie Robinson! Can't get much better than that!

Credit to Rube Dali for the suggestion.

Checking the back of Laga's card to see maybe that is something like a Cub road uniform that got the paint job over, but he was a Tiger previously, and they also were white/grey like the Cardinals in 1985/1986.  Could be a black batting  jersey. 🤷🏻‍♂️

jdogg1228: I can't put the card after Honus Wagner because it isn't a numbered set.  Sorry.

No worries about the tobacco card.

By the way, this is the card after the Shohei Ohtani rookie.

How about Forrest Jacobs, the guy right after Hank Aaron's rookie card? https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/33/cid/6320?PageIndex=1
