Appreciate the help! | ||
| ||
RefsInTheBack, I have added all of the cards you have pointed out to my list. Thanks for all of your help!
There should be a sublist for the cards where it is clear Hakeem is going to block the shot or is making the shooter alter and miss it (I think the Tisdale is showing an imminent swat). As a certified Hakeem fan from the first time I randomly selected Houston Rockets on NBA Jam arcade game, I actually had started saving cards like this but did not know many of the cards. Thanks for putting this together -- it gives me some cards to target.
Drudpwn99 Glad you like the list. When I started it I thought I would find 100 or 200 cards. The list is already over 400 cards. It would be cool to make a sublist for different categories. Ex. Good defense, blocking shots, or getting dunked on by Jordan. If you find any that I am missing please let me know. Thanks,
I didn't see this Kenny Smith card when he was on the Hawks. Hakeem is probably not going to get the block on this shot. I thought it was cool to have the future teamates in the shot. 1990-91 NBA Hoops - [Base] #33
Thanks for the help. I added the Kenny Smith card to the list!
| ||
RefsInTheBack, I have added all of the cards you have pointed out to my list. Thanks AGAIN for all of your help!
Does "Raptors Hakeem" make the list? https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/8152/cid/8420613/2002-NBA-Showdown-36-Michael-Doleac
RefsInTheBack, I have added the Raptors Hakeem cameo card to the list. That is only the second one I have seen. The other one is https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2978/cid/732847/2001-02-Topps-Chrome-165-Kwame-Brown. Thanks AGAIN AGAIN for all of your help!
I came across a parallel first, but there is obviously a base version (and another parallel too):
RefsInTheBack, I have those Elden Campbell cards on the list! Thanks!
1993-94 NBA Hoops Basketball # 260 Larry Johnson All Star I don't think I saw this one on the list. Interestingly, I am positive this is a different photo of the the exact same move depicted on the Larry Johnson 92-93 Upper Deck All-Star card.
| ||
1993-94 Hoops #259 Scottie Pippen All Star card.
Thank you for the comments!
1993-94 Upper Deck Top Prospects Lindsey Hunter #492. This has shown to be a fairly common angle/shot involving Hakeem cameo cards with a player going up to the basket and there is that scoreboard sign in the picture between the lower and upper decks at the Summit. 1994-95 Upper Deck Basketball #194 Carlos Rogers Draft Analysis
Hakeem is just everywhere.
Thank you for the comments! I appreciate all of your help with the list. Hakeem is everywhere. When I started the list I would have been suprised if I found 200 different cameo cards. This list is almost at 550 cards.
1994-95 Skybox #332 Dikembe Mutumbo. Hakeem is on the back of the card. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2265/cid/680252/1994-95-SkyBox-332-Dikembe-Mutombo?PageIndex=4
| ||
Would you think that Hakeem is the most cameo-d player in basketball card history? It would actually make sense given his position and prevalence of certain types of photos used for basketball cards (e.g., moves close to the rim).
I knew Hakeem had a lot of cameo cards. That is why I started this list. A year into compiling the list I would have to agree with you that I do believe he has the most cameo cards.
| ||
That is an Olajuwon card.

| ||
https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2153/cid/674003/1993-94-Hoops-333-Lindsey-Hunter I have a strong suspicion that is Hakeem's hand with the tape.
I agree! | ||
Its going on the list, right? [I see it now. I appreciate you referencing me for the ones I've pointed out -- it gives me great pride and satisfaction.]
| ||
Thanks for all of the help with the list!
| ||
| ||
Thanks for the help with the list. The last two cards have been added.
Is there a way to do a quick search through the list to find a particular word or card# in order to determine whether a card is on the list? I don't want to be bothersome with pointing out cards that are actually on the list already -- I keep on finding more and now see it doesn't apparently go into chronoligical order as new cards are added. I will look over entire list and try and hopefully I can remember enough going forward to know cards not in list I come across -- this has inspired me to keep all cards with Hakeem cameos and revive a little collection I had going back in the day -- please forgive me if I make some mistakes on this in pointing out cards already on the list.
Click on anyones list. Top right corner click on "Update your collection." This brings you to a sorted list.
Hope that helps. | ||
Yes! Thank you for that tip. I am seeing RefsInTheBack is identifying a bunch of cards and its spurring a competitive fire in me to step up my game to match him. And its all for the greater good as opposed to personal glory, getting back in touch with why I became Hakeem fan in the first place.
Let's go!!! | ||
Boom!!! Checked and not on the list. There is this LCS in Sacramento I found that has a bunch of these big 10 cents boxes with the remains of collections bought. There are actually some legit cards in there that make them worth going through, but now I've been looking and finding Hakeem cameo cards. Its actually quite enjoyable and I'm going to build up a collection of my own -- 10 cents for a card with Hakeem in it is a steal. I think all major American releases during his playing days is an achievable goal worth pursuing. Do you have a collection of these cards yourself, and, if so, how many you got? Also, did you see Taco Bell has brought back the Double Decker taco? I'm pscyhed not just because its good, but it brings back a cool connection with Hakeem. Do you know what I am referring to?
I am always looking for the Olajuwon cameo cards. I find most of the cards for the list from searching my collection, comc, tcdb, or ebay. I have over 200 of them so far. Collecting cards is a fun hobby for me, and this collection definitely isn't going to break the bank. Double Decker Taco = Olajuwon vs Shaq commercials!!! lol.
Olajuwon and the Double Decker taco is probably one of the best product endorsements -- such a perfect fit. That was Olajuwon's one and only national endorsement/ad campaign (his LA Gear shoes didn't ), and it wasn't even for Taco Bell generallyl it was solely for the Double Decker because I figure it met his very high standards (only other food item comparable at that time was the Mexican Pizza). Can you imagine how good one of those would be during Ramadan at sundown after not eating all day? I got that every time I went to Taco Bell, and I was legitimately bummed when I ordered it 2 years ago and was told they no longer served it. I asked if they could still make me one, and the person said that they had been doing that for a while because people also asked, but the manager told them to stop. I was going to write a post about this in the forum section and I ended up on a journey of reflection and self-exploration. I decided to write a personal essay on the signficance of Olajuwon and the Double Decker taco in my life and a big part of who I am as a person. I will post it here when I am done.
I just can't even remember what life was like before the Double Decker taco, other than that it was dangerous because of the potential to get a razor sharp taco shard stuck in your throat; the Double Decker taco eliminated that problem altogether.
That sounds like a good read! #Crunchy #Soft
I've been feeling down because I haven't been coming across any Hakeem cameo cards lately. But then I found this: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2086/cid/664223/1991-92-Hoops-553-Mark-Macon This may very well be the best cameo shot of Hakeem (can't think of any better ones than this) -- you can see Macon is obviuously going to miss this shot and might actually end up landing on the ground without even getting shot off. You can see in his face the sudden realization that beating his man off dribble and taking it to the hole was actually a horrible offensive move with Hakeem patrolling the paint, and exactly what the defense wanted him to do. Mr. Macon, let me introduce you to Mr. Olajuwon! I think the picture of Macon on the back of the card was taken after this game.
| ||
True that! Favorite Olajuwon cameo cards are when he is blocking other players. Least favorite Olajuwon cameo cards are when he is getting dunked on.
| ||
https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2153/cid/673752?PageIndex=1 Hakeem is back to the left -- I zoomed in to confirm the jersey is 34.
And another one, and another one.... https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2153/cid/673874?PageIndex=1 Can't stop, won't stop....
I keep goin and goin but I'm not the pink bunny, Instead of beatin on a drum I never stop finding Hakeem cameo cards. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2153/cid/673929?PageIndex=1
Nice finds Drudpwn99. I like the Barros card!
Ya, that Barros card definitely involves a swat.
This isn't a card, but you should check it out -- Garnett is talkin about how he had no comeback to Hakeem's trash talk.
here is one you are going to like.. A LOT!! https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2118/cid/671660/1992-93-Ultra-140-Jeff-Ruland this could be the best one ever. look at Jeff Ruland's face.
That is a cool one! The old school Olajuwon goggles!
the goggles are so awesome. Hakeem is the only player in NBA history who made them look cool.
Another epic cameo shot: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2359/cid/684804?PageIndex=1
Here is a Shaq card that may not look that epic, but Hakeem is definitely messing with Shaq's game because that is not a shot Shaq wants to take. I assume he missed this shot. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2359/cid/684812?PageIndex=1
Kevin Johnson card -- I hate KJ because of that dunk he did on Hakeem. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2359/cid/684823?PageIndex=1
| ||
Ok, I now see these cards were on the list already. Darn. I thought I was on fire.
You don't have to remind me about the Kevin Johnson dunk! As always, thanks for all of the help with the list!
| ||
I've been a little down lately because I havent come across any new Hakeem cameo cards. But today I found this: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2118/cid/671811/1992-93-Ultra-291-Matt-Geiger Matt Geiger with hair!
The list is up to 563 cards! Everytime I think the list is almost complete you find another cameo card!
| ||
Thanks for the help with the list.
Ok, check out this card. I believe Hakeem Olajuwom is on the back of the card -- he is sitting next to the coach and his head is immediately to the left of the player in the card at the level of the number on the jersey, and you can zoom in between the guy's legs and see a leg with a red knee pad and what looks like Olajuwon's LA Gear shoes. Hakeem also had a fairly prominent mustache this year as seen in other cards that appears to be present here. This would be a game where Hakeem would likely be sitting on the bench because the Rockets player playing defense was not a starter (its not Scott Brooks, but someone further down the depth chart who would only be in a game that was a complete blowout and Hakeem would not be in the game), I can clearly see Robert Horry on the bench as well, this was a game against the T-Wolves and they were terrible (and a road game for them too). I think its a strong case and all evidence points to Hakeem. Only other person it could be would be Tree Rollins maybe, but I don't think that would be him. What do you think? the zoom feature on the page is pretty decent at enlarging it enough to see the evidence. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2192/cid/676267?PageIndex=1
| ||
Drudpwn99 I agree that is Olajuwon!
Ok, this one is kind of tough. We rattle off the big names that Olajuwon went against and were considered his rivals (Robinson, Ewing, Shaq) but we forget perhaps the center who caused Olajuwon the most problems. I'm talking about The... Big... Smooth.... Sam Perkins. I don't remember anything Payton or Kemp did this series, all I remember is Sam Perkins draining threes. I didn't know what was going on exactly, only that this was different, and I didn't like it, it would happen in slow motion, his shot was so unique because it looked like his feet did not leave the floor, and it seemed unstoppable. Now I can see with the illegal defense, Perkins was the only center who could legitimately take Olajuwon way out of the middle and step way outside and still be a threat (and I don't think he posed any threat down low at all). I figure that was the difference in this series, very tough loss. But perhaps it made what would follow so much sweeter. I got nothing but respect for Sam Perkins though, unlike say KJ who is a punk. I seriously think that if instead of Sam Perkins, the Sonics had Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, or any other hall of fame center, Rockets win that series. What do you think? I also have this idea that Rudy T. was just all about inspiring the team with rousing speeches and he perhaps never did any x's and o's coaching at all, so he was not able to devise a game plan to address how Sam Perkins played. Here is the card though.
| ||
93-94 Topps has got to have the least number of Hakeem cameos of any set. I went through a lot of the set and I didn't find any. I thought for sure Hakeem would be all up in there, I couldn't even find a hand.
| ||
| ||
Nice one! I added it to the list. Thank you for all of your help!
On back of card, this one also has a gold parallel: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2318/cid/682695/1994-95-Upper-Deck---Special-Edition-SE100-Larry-Johnson
Thank you RefsIn TheBack. I added them to the list. I stole your idea. I have been looking for Olajuwon Cameo cards that show more of him when they are miscut!
That will be a fun chase, at least it is for me. Makes COMC way more exciting, even for old not valuable base cards because I am looking for that ONE card cut just right that works for my collection. Good luck!
| ||
| ||
Thank you Drodpwn99 & RefsIn TheBack! I have added them to the list.
I don't see this Lindsey Hunter Top Prospect card on the list. If it isn't already, it is noteworthy that this is the second Lindsey Hunter rookie year card with Hakeem. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2192/cid/676637/1993-94-Upper-Deck-492-Lindsey-Hunter
Base features The Dream on the front, parallels feature Dream on the back: https://www.comc.com/Cards/Basketball/1999-00/Upper_Deck_Black_Diamond_-_Base_-_Diamond_Cut/51/Jayson_Williams/11549643
Thanks for the help with the list.
Here is another cameo with just half an arm. This one is cool because Pete Chilcutt, on Sac in this rc, would go on to be a starter during at least one of the Rockets' championship runs. I always liked Chilcutt - he gave me false belief I could perhaps play in NBA (it was never clear that he was in fact 6'10 and he just looked like an average kinda nerdy dude who just did da good stuff in the floor, never anything flashy like making buckets or otherwise doing anything noticeable - the invisible assassin.
https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/2082/cid/663519/1991-92-Fleer-348-Pete-Chilcutt?PageIndex=4
Card has been added! Thanks for the help with the list.
You probably already have this (and all the other language versions) on there but: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/71939/cid/5159576/1995-96-Collector's-Choice-German-I-55-Clyde-Drexler |
