by jdogg1228 - 183 cards (Last updated on Jun 23, 2022)

1. 2009 Topps - Gold #24 Frank Thomas

275 lbs.
Still having Big Hurt in the front.

2. 2013 Choice Binghamton Mets #27 Glenn Abbott

225 lbs? In his playing days, maybe.
As you can see from the photo, he's definitely gained a lot of weight as a pitching coach.
Submitted by: TwinKiller

6. 2019 Topps Total #741 Matt Albers

Only 225! Nonsense! Just look at how big he looks in this card.

Submitted by: curling2019

8. 2020 Donruss Optic - Carolina Blue and White #7 Pete Alonso

245 lbs. Thus the nickname, "Polar Bear."

10. 2020 Topps Gypsy Queen #46 Willians Astudillo

You know they lie about the weight when they say this guy is 225.
The double chin though...

If anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Sep 2, 2021 - 12:08AM

His '71 OPC card says 250 and his '71 Dell stamp says 285 ... that was probably before and after breakfast.

Sep 8, 2021 - 6:55PM

Thanks, theFalcon! Cards were added. :)

Sep 8, 2021 - 8:23PM

Cant forget this fella:

usually listed 270s+, frequently 300+

Oh, and got a reminder from John Kruk on this one:

Thanks to ComposerMike!

Sep 19, 2021 - 1:36PM

You have one Orioles DH/1B, but could add another - Sam Horn. Here is listed at 250 -

Sep 19, 2021 - 10:23PM

Thanks, Tscastle!

Sep 25, 2021 - 9:37PM

Almost any David Wells between, say 1997 and 1999. Cards list him at 225 but I feel like he was more than that, especially when he was battling gout.

I feel like Billy "country breakfast" Butler was a pretty big guy, too. Maybe around 250 if I'm not mistaken

Edited on: Sep 25, 2021 - 9:38PM

Sep 26, 2021 - 9:38AM

1990's Rick Reuschel might qualify for the list.

Sep 26, 2021 - 3:29PM

thanks doogie_13 and grim25doogie_13, I was able to find cards of David Wells in his later years, (2007-2008) in which he was listed at 250 lbs. Billy Butler has been added as well. grim25, Rick Reuschel does qualify; he has been added.

Oct 11, 2021 - 9:15AM

Hey, how about Joba Chamberlain? I seem to remember him being a pretty big dude

Oct 11, 2021 - 8:49PM

Ah yes, now that I think about it I remember him being a big guy as well. Thanks for the reminder!

Oct 15, 2021 - 7:38AM

See, Nelson Cruz says he's 230. But, I find it hard to believe you don't put on any weight from 2015 to 2021.

Oct 15, 2021 - 7:41AM
Oct 15, 2021 - 7:44PM

Thanks for the suggestions, TwinKiller. I had no idea Phil Huges even weighed that much! You make a good point with Nelson Cruz too. (Both cards have been added now.)

Big Ray

Bobby Jenks @ 275 lbs.

Oct 19, 2021 - 5:48PM
Oct 19, 2021 - 5:52PM

Fun to add to this great list. Carlos Zambrano says 255.

Oct 19, 2021 - 10:03PM

Thanks for the suggestions both of you guys! TwinKiller, I was actually thinking of adding Howard today, so funny you said that. Thanks again.

Oct 19, 2021 - 10:07PM

Also, just wanted to thank everyone who is contributing to this list. You have to admit, it's a lot of fun watching this list come together, with more additions each day.

He played in the majors for a lot of this year. Has no major league image though. But he is 6'10" 260.

Oct 20, 2021 - 11:22AM

2 more. Matt Capps and even though they don't put weight on his cards The Babe must apply. Imagine the amount of cards on this list if it applied to football. The weight limit you would have to make would be 300 pounds!

Thanks for the suggestions, TwinKiller and CollectingAfterDeath. TwinKiller, that's why football is a tough sport. Next thing you know, there's a 350 pound man ready to tackle you!

Oct 22, 2021 - 7:15PM

wow, Kenley's that heavy? never would have guessed.

Oct 22, 2021 - 9:39PM

Surprised when I saw it too.

I actually added Rizzo before I looked at your comment, so if it is alright with you, it won't say "Submitted by: CollectingAfterDeath."

Great suggestions, I totally forgot about Gallo and Dunn.

I won't do your honorable mentions because I've lost track of the times I've looked on the back of a baseball cards and it said "235 lbs." As much as I'd like to add Trout, I don't really want to go back and find all the 235 people.

Oct 25, 2021 - 7:25AM

Understandable to have a cut-off.  Wasn't sure at the time that it was 240.  Thank you for letting me participate.

Got another one for your list:

Mitch Moreland - 245

This list gives me more of an appreciation for how powerful, pound for pound, Hank Aaron at just 180 lbs was, with those 755 dingers.

Edited on: Oct 25, 2021 - 8:35AM

Oct 25, 2021 - 8:35PM

Of course, the more contributers, the better!

Cool, forgot about Mitch Moreland. Nice card too.

Yeah I'm hoping everyone agrees that Hammerin' Hank is the real home run king. He is a perfect example. He may be a skinny boy, but what you learn from that is you don't need steroids to be one of the greatest to ever play the game.

Nov 4, 2021 - 10:55AM

Steve balboni...

Nov 4, 2021 - 11:01PM

Hey, parsley24 I did not add him because he only weighs 225.

Nov 9, 2021 - 5:01PM

Matt Albers is "only" 225, but looks heavier. Plus, he goes from 195 to 225 through his career.

Nov 9, 2021 - 11:21PM

Thanks for bringing that back up.

I was looking through my 2019 Topps Update set and saw him there. He looked pretty big,  but I didn't add him right away. Thatnks again.

Nov 10, 2021 - 12:17PM

Butch Huskey circa 2000 Topps.

Nov 10, 2021 - 12:19PM

And also BR says that Ruth weighed 215 but that was in his PRIME. He probably was 230 - 240 in his final year with the braves or a coach for the Dodgers. You should add one of those cards instead.

Nov 10, 2021 - 7:10PM

Dick "The Monster" Radatz was up to 265 at the end of his career -

Nov 11, 2021 - 1:15PM

Thanks, theFalcon.

TwinKiller, I added the Bambino on the Braves. :)

Nov 14, 2021 - 7:10PM

TwinKiller, just noticed Butch Huskey suggestion above.

He was just added.

Nov 15, 2021 - 8:39AM
Nov 15, 2021 - 7:30PM

jmnovff, big Frank is already added.

Thank you for your want to contribute though.

Edited on: Nov 15, 2021 - 7:31PM

Nov 27, 2021 - 2:45PM

Boog Powell was a big guy!

Nov 27, 2021 - 3:35PM

Indeed he was! He is added.

Dec 16, 2021 - 2:00AM

Maybe Jason Giambi?  I think he was up to 240 later on.  Check maybe a Colorado Rockies card.  Sorry if he's already here, didn't see him first time through.

Dec 16, 2021 - 6:37PM

Thanks, found a 2015 card on the Indians so that will be added.

Dec 16, 2021 - 9:57PM

Frankie Montas.  255lbs 2021 Heritage.

Madison Bumgarner.  250lbs 2019 Donruss

Edited on: Dec 16, 2021 - 10:08PM

Dec 17, 2021 - 8:54PM

Thanks again, those will be added too

Dec 24, 2021 - 6:17PM

Definitely at the end of his career did Kirby get there. No exact weight but we can all make assumptions right?

Dec 24, 2021 - 7:46PM

Great suggestion!

One problem...

Having trouble choosing one of these two cards:

The one you suggested is cool, as the "Big Show" would be a fitting show to be on if you make my list

And then there's THIS CARD where he looks huge.

Which one is best?

Dec 24, 2021 - 8:08PM

The big show card because there is no weight shown unlike yours where it says 215. He was definitely bigger after retirement and your card is him as a player. Just my reasoning.

Dec 25, 2021 - 1:17AM

Ok thanks.

Will add it soon.

Bobby Bonilla 240lbs

Check out his 01 Topps card with Cardinals.

Dec 29, 2021 - 4:59PM

thanks to you.

Dec 29, 2021 - 5:08PM

Jim Bibby was listed at 250 late in his career .... I remember how the sweat came off the bill of his cap like a drip coffeemaker.

Dec 30, 2021 - 7:24AM

Chris Carter got up to 250.

Check out 15 Heritage #485 with Astros.

Dec 30, 2021 - 1:57PM

Thanks a lot, theFalcon and chvlDm.

Dec 30, 2021 - 3:48PM

Good list.

Really, I don't look at the weights of players, so some of these are surprises to me.

Edited on: Jan 3, 2022 - 7:55AM

Dec 31, 2021 - 2:43PM

He's actually the second guy on here.

He didn't really have a peak, his rookie year was '06 and then no more cards were made.

Jan 20, 2022 - 12:51PM

I didnt see Bob Hamelin. BB REFERENCE lists him at 240.

ROLEN AND RUTH are listed twice btw...maybe others but i noticed them

Jan 22, 2022 - 4:16PM

Thanks, good catch. Noticed some others were added twice and removed those.

I will add Bob Hamelin.

Jan 23, 2022 - 10:58PM

1986 Calbee #33 Nobuyuki Kagawa | Trading Card Database (

Here's a Japanese player. He weighed 216 pounds during his rookie year and it grew over the years.

Edited on: Jan 24, 2022 - 12:39AM

Jan 24, 2022 - 7:45PM

Bob Hamelin has been added.

Nobuyuki Kagawa's only card back is in like japanese or something, but since he's HUGE, I'll go ahead and add him.

Thanks a lot!

Feb 4, 2022 - 8:22AM

Joey Meyer is listed at 265 on a late 80s card I was looking at lately...

Feb 10, 2022 - 7:45PM

Feb 12, 2022 - 9:39PM

A couple names that jumped to my mind, that i don't think you have, were Charlie Kerfeld (scroll down his gallery to see his journey from 230 to 295) and Hector Villanueva (see his Chinese league cards at the end of his gallery and do the kg to lbs conversion).

Feb 14, 2022 - 2:35PM
Feb 17, 2022 - 9:42PM

Thanks to both of you

Mar 9, 2022 - 8:41AM

Great list. I had three possibilities in mind the whole time--and Rick Reuschel and Tony Gwynn finally appeared. Paul Reuschel didn't make the cut. Then I was up way too late checking out candidates that all turned out to be in the 225 range....

Mar 9, 2022 - 3:34PM

Dwight Gooden. This card makes him look like he makes the list. Its even got the big baby in the back!

Mar 10, 2022 - 7:06PM

Thanks, that Dwight Gooden one was funny.

I'll add Paul Reuschel and the Gooden card in the next update.

v3, thanks a bunch for the suggestion. Forgot there was another Reuschel.

Apr 3, 2022 - 1:45PM

It would be easier to find if you have someone listed if they were in alphabetical order by last name.

Apr 7, 2022 - 8:01PM

Thanks, that suggestion will be taken into consideration and will probably be caried out.

Apr 7, 2022 - 8:07PM

Glenn Abbot (Manager)

It says 220 but we all know that that is probably his playing days weight. Manager pounds is what I call 'em.

Apr 10, 2022 - 11:48AM

That will be added, thanks!

Jun 8, 2022 - 4:48PM

Thank you all for your patience while this LONG update was in progress. Enjoy this BIG list! See what I did there? ;)

I will be continuing to accept the seemingly never-ending canidates for this list, thank you.

Jun 8, 2022 - 8:19PM

Good to see the list alphabetized.. Could you list the top 10 by weight in the header section.

Jun 8, 2022 - 11:10PM

Sure, no problem. Like the suggestion.

Jun 9, 2022 - 12:25AM

Honorable mention for Willians Astudillo who is only 225 but is also only 5'9"?

Jun 9, 2022 - 7:14AM

And also the fact that his nickname is La Tortuga. Choose his 2021 GQ card as the card. Shows it the best IMO.

Jun 9, 2022 - 11:53AM

Ok, I'll check it out.

Can you provide a link please? I'm not seeing Astudillo in 21 GQ, thanks.

Edited on: Jun 9, 2022 - 11:58AM

Jun 9, 2022 - 4:47PM

Probably 2020 he meant...

Jun 9, 2022 - 5:53PM

Ha! I will certainly be adding that!

Jun 9, 2022 - 6:11PM

He might not be at the right weight, (at least I think so, but this card kinda looks otherwise,) but Don ZImmer deserves honorable mention for being known as a melting walrus. EDIT: Looked it up and thats no such thing. Thats just what I've called him :\

Edited on: Jun 9, 2022 - 6:13PM

Jun 9, 2022 - 6:32PM

I think I'll pass on that one, only because his face only looks so big because of all that tobacco in his mouth.

Funny nickname though!

Jun 9, 2022 - 7:42PM

I just saw an article that John Kruk was pretty big at the end of his career and as the coach of the Phillies MiLB teams..  This card kinda shows it, but I dont know an exact manager weight, but the card says 175. (That was his weight when he was with the Padres, I think.)

Jun 9, 2022 - 10:05PM

Unless you can find a card of Kruk as a coach of the minor leagues, I think I'll pass on that one too. Thanks a lot for looking into it though.

Jun 19, 2022 - 4:42PM

Josh Naylor is 250 according to Fangraphs

Jun 20, 2022 - 12:52PM

Thank you, I will add that.
