Joel Youngblood - PC Checklistby Bowersbird - 80 cards (Last updated on Dec 27, 2023) |
Background: I was buying some cards on eBay and only needed a few more for free shipping (or some deal like that). I picked out Joel's RC because he was a Red & I thought his name was interesting. When it arrived, I went to put it away, and discovered I had his 1990 Score card, when he was also a Red. Was he really a Red for all those years and I didn't know about him? Turns out, no! 1976 and 1989 are his only years as a Red. I was intrigued, so I did a little research. The more I learned, the more fascinated and amused by this guy I was. So, I decided to start collecting his cards. It's fun to have this ongoing quest as well as become a little more familiar with the different sets of this era.
1. 1977 Topps #548 Joel Youngblood
The card that started this! Also, funny because he wasn't actually on the Reds in 1977. He was sent to the Cardinals (right around or during spring training) before being dealt again to the Mets. (So no cards of him on the Cards). |
2. 1978 Topps #428 Joel Youngblood
First card as a Met. And while I'm not a Cardinal fan, I do sort of wish he had a card with them. I might have to buy or make a custom one just for fun. |
8. 1981 Topps Coca-Cola New York Mets #11 Joel Youngblood
I'm a sucker for branded cards - so this is double the fun. The set does lose a few points for just being the Topps cards with a logo in the corner, though. |
10. 1981 O-Pee-Chee - Gray Back #58 Joel Youngblood
Not sure I really care about getting both backs, but I might just to see them both. Because another fun thing about collecting "all" of Joel cards is learning about the card variations and sets of the time. |

You may also want to add any checklist his name appears on to make your collection complete! | ||
That's an interesting idea. I currently have one checklist as a placeholder and plan to get his team photo appearances (which are often checklists). I might have to consider picking up regular checklists as well |
