The Ultimate Ginter Full-Sized Insert Set Bracket!: Seeding Vote #2 (2008)

For the first part of the bracket creation, we need to seed the various full-sized insert sets.  I thought it'd be fun to first have a vote for the best insert set within each year and use each year vote winner as a top seed.  From there, I'll fill in the rest of the bracket with the remaining full-sized sets.

I also hope that each of these Seeding Vote posts give you a bit of information about each of the insert sets for a specific year.  That should help with your voting as we move forward into the heart of the Ultimate Ginter Full-Sized Insert Set Bracket.  I laid out the rest of the ground rules in my introductory post so feel free to check that post out as well.  Now, we move on to the good stuff (and remember to vote at the bottom of the post by leaving a comment with your choice)!

Today, we take a look at the full-sized inserts from 2008 Topps Allen & Ginter.

For the first time in this voting series, we actually have a proper vote!  That's right, the 2008 Allen & Ginter set featured two different full-sized inserts for collectors to chase.

The first insert set is the United States set.

This 50 card set features the best current MLB player for each of the 50 states.  Like the Dick Perez sets of the previous two years, the United States set was printed on a much thicker card stock to act as a bit of a deterrent for pack searchers.

The other full-sized insert set from 2008 was the World's Greatest Victories set.

This 20 card set features victories across many walks of life (and time periods).  If you like an eclectic checklist, then this is the set for you!
  • WGV1 Kerri Strug
  • WGV2 Mark Spitz
  • WGV3 Jonas Salk
  • WGV4 Man Walks on the Moon
  • WGV5 Jon Lester
  • WGV6 The Fall of Berlin Wall
  • WGV7 David and Goliath
  • WGV8 Gary Carter and the '86 Mets
  • WGV9 The Battle of Gettysburg
  • WGV10 Deep Blue
  • WGV11 The Allied Forces
  • WGV12 Don Larsen
  • WGV13 Truman Defeats Dewey
  • WGV14 The American Revolution
  • WGV15 2004 ALCS
  • WGV16 The Battle of Thermopylae
  • WGV17 Brown v. Board of Education
  • WGV18 Team Orange
  • WGV19 Bill Mazeroski
  • WGV20 Cinderella
As you can see, there is a mix of sports, history, and even fairy tales in the set.  Ostensibly, Topps included this set because it was part of that year's Ginter Code contest.  To make things difficult for collectors, the World's Greatest cards were seeded 1:24 packs (i.e. one per hobby box).

And there you have it, our first proper vote of the series.  Will the baseball-centric United States prevail or will our first true "Ginter oddball" set rule the day?  Only you can decide which of the two insert sets gets the top seed out of 2008!
