Beatles, Monkees & Getting Wacky

Of the cards up today all but one were issued well before I was born. But all have had an impact on my life in different ways.

Up first, The Beatles. My dad, was a Rolling Stones guy but my mom was definitely on the Beatles side. My Uncle who recently passed away was also a huge Beatles fan.

The Top 2 cards are from the 1964 O-Pee-Chee Beatles set. A total of 165 cards were issued in 3 series. These 2 are both from the 3rd series.
So you can say I’m either at 2/165 for the complete set of 2/50 for Series 3 which is 4%

The bottom card is from the 1964 O-Pee-Chee Beatles Color (without a u) set. It constantly looks wrong to me how it is spelt. This is the first one I’ve managed to trade for in about 5 years so I’m happy I got it.

You know if the British did something the Americans wouldn’t be far behind with a version and that was of course The Monkees. They started out as a gimmick, but actually produced some decent music. These next 2 cards are from the 1967 Donruss The Monkees B set. I add these when I see them, but they aren’t O-Pee-Chee so I don’t track them as much.

Back to O-Pee-Chee for the last card of the day.

I was around for these 1989 O-Pee-Chee Wacky Packages but I don’t remember them as I was 17 at the time and far more into soccer and girls. My collecting didn’t stop but it definitely went on the back burner for a few years. I do have fond memories of the earlier sets so it’s good to start putting this set together even if this is the first one I have.

I’m not sure they’d be able to do a mock cigarette ad with violence on it anymore. I’m sure someone would complain.
