COMC Company Update – May 2024
This past year has brought tremendous growth and new partnerships to the collecting industry, and through it all COMC remains committed and focused on our mission: to optimize joy for collectors. Be on the lookout over the next several months for new COMC offerings to give you even more ways to pursue your passion. However, there can be a cost that comes with progress and rapid growth, and unfortunately, many of you have experienced this recently with the long lead times for shipping that we are fighting. I want to take a minute to let you know why this has been a challenge and what we are doing to get back to timely deliveries for you.
We offered a new No Minimum Auction service at the end of 2023, which was met with tremendous enthusiasm and exceeded our expectations and staffing levels. To give you an idea of the volume we are servicing, in Q1 we shipped a total of 1.3M items in almost 200K shipments. January alone saw an 80% increase in shipments shipped over the previous January, while a backlog was built over and above that impressive increase in production by our staff.
Here is what we are doing to make it better:
- We created a night shift to double our fulfillment capacity and are staffing it accordingly.
- We hired a process engineer to identify new opportunities to streamline and accelerate our operation.
- We published an online COMC Service Status page to provide full transparency and up-to-date timelines for our different services.
- We are improving our forecasting models to better predict needed staffing levels with future service launches to prevent this from happening again.
Thank you for your patience as we continue working through our backlog. We are making meaningful progress. Since we began increasing staffing and improving our fulfillment process, we have seen gains in our production and lead times shrinking. This will continue as our recruitment pace and shipping output are surpassing our initial forecasts.
