Since these are fictional players, shouldn't this set be in the non-sports section?

It was listed here because it was marketed as a baseball set.

1988 Leaf Awesome All-Stars is a baseball only set. It is in the non sport section. I thought it was non sports because the players are all fictional.

It's under Baseball > Oddball where it belongs. The sport assignment depends on how it was marketed to consumers. We also have sets involving basketball players, football players, actors, presidents, etc. that are listed under Baseball instead of Multi-Sport or Non-Sport because of how they were marketed.

I must admit I do enjoy that Jerry West shows as having a card in my baseball collection.

I always thought the same thing with the Comic Ball sets

Technically they are baseball but it's characters from cartoons.  And unlike this above set, the Comic Ball isn't even listed as an Oddball set, it's under the major releases.
