If you can't tell the difference between expressing an opinion and trying to sound a rally cry, then maybe you should refrain from writing.
Dan, seriously? How can I express an opinion on a segment of card collecting, when everybody is sitting in wait to pounce? How do I opiniate on some of the variations we don't list without it sounding like "your rally cry"? I mean, an open discussion or dialogue is impossible with everybody's negative thoughts. So I have to post for information and education but not a discussion. What opinion is accepable then?, are opinions considered non-adherance on my informational posts?
Yeah....No way, the forum is a way of expressing yourself, although too tightly scrutinized.
But in the long run alls good.........

Commish, Seems like a good idea. It stands to reason that the logistics of the site has to keep up with the many card variations around today. More and more "finds" make it impossible to identify, let alone trade.
I'm for it!....Change is good

Did my expression of opinion ask people for agreement? Did it guggest that I want to stop others from adding that certain segment of the hobby? Did I ask "Who else here agrees?" Did i say "It's 2 to 1, who else?"
No, I stated it, and that was it. I didn't ask for reassurance that my opinion was shared with others. Doesn't matter. It's opinion. You can post opinions. No one is trying to stop you from having opinions or expressing them. You just cannot keep expressing that you want printing flaws added as VARs here. Those requests have been denied over and over. I'm amazed that you can't understand what the differences are - either that or you're intentionally being deceptive. Neither is good, and I'm not sure which it is at this point. You've been told way too many times about it for it to be lack of knowledge, but I sincerely doubt you're deceptive (maybe it's wishful thinking on my part or my attempting to see the good in everyone that I do).
Bob, I like you. I see what you do as a person off the site. Heart of gold, great guy, awesome grandfather. I respect the heck out of you for all that. This is why I try to help you here. It's like you're a different person here. I'm just glad I know what you're like away from here or I probably wouldn't deal with you at all. So, let's cut through all the bs, and let's get these posts in order.
In the meantime, this really wasn't the place for this discussion as we were really discussing the * and ** on 1983 Topps Traded sets. I have heard back from Admin that he has been, and continues to be, very busy on something else, but will get back to me very soon.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 10/25/2023). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned off (details are in my profile). I have (finally) unearthed my 2 very large boxes of Star Company minor league sets and they are available (email for details).

Joshua, interesting for sure. It would completely blow up the Glossary as we know it today if we went down that road. It would also require Admin's approval, as the way we use "Note=VAR, Note2=VAR: <explanation>" is the preferred (and approved) method at this point in time. I can see your point. Not sure how the db would handle all the new records.

Shame on me? That's where you're going to go with this?
If I truly have so much influence over people, please, someone come talk to my boss so I can move up in the corporate world. If you're basing your opinions on collections based on what I say, I hate to break it to you but you're going up the wrong tree.
I have said time and time again when I don't agree with something being listed here. Remember the ice cream sticks from a few weeks ago? Remember my response when I was told Admin wanted them to say? If not, here. Quite frankly, I personally don't give a damn about what is or isn't listed here because if it isn't in my collection, or fitting the scope of it, it's doesn't matter in that aspect. This means that I can worry about making the site the best that it can be, with no issues about what is or isn't listed, even if I personally disagree. See the linked thread for my feelings on that. Ah, but of course you were told no by two people so that must be a personal attack against you. Right. Shame on me.
For the record, I earned L8 status just a few months ago by doing the work required and earning the points. No one sent them to me, no one did me any favors. You've been fighting this war a lot longer than I've been a part of it, but go ahead, please continue to direct your anger about not getting your way at me.
In respect to jimetal's post from earlier, I'll stop because I could keep going on and on. Dan, sorry about another post on this thread that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Nec Aspera Terrent I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Maybe consider my VAR suggestion from this point forward, and grandfather in all else, or at least until it can be done piecemeal. I'm not proposing a complete upheaval and elimination of the notations, but I believe there was an enhancement done over the past few months where Notes became visible on our various collection/trade pages, like this:

That actually picked up Note2, and I'd be fine with that, but believe there could even be a standard used with Note1. I'm not a programmer, but it sure seems like if it's done on part of the database it should work in others.
Also, I could see a VAR * or VAR ** used for various sets not just this '83 set, because it seems to me that most of the time there are two VARs within a set, '91 Donruss notwithstanding, and when someone's familiar with that set you'd know what it is already, or can simply look at one and know what it is. For many I believe only Note 1 would be necessary, but for those where additional info has to explain a more complex variation, then use Note2, and it could attach as in the picture I've shared.

I hesitate to bring this thread back up because of the messed up turns it took in the middle, but here we are...
The set still hasn't been updated, but Admin has addressed many of the issued that were brought up here with the new formatting of sets with VARs (and especially VARs that run throughout the entire set).
Now that all of those concerns have been addressed bt Admin, it looks like it's time to fix up this set. As with the other sets, some prep work will be involved in working on the checklist that is already here, as well as the addition of the other version of each card. Please be aware of these changes that will be happening and have a little patience. Thank you.

Dan, to go back to something you said earlier in the thread about User comments for the field, I went and looked at your three Stevie Y cards....I was able to see all three you had, but the only way I was able to see you comments was to expand your collection of the three and hover over them. I wasn't able to see the comments any other way? Am I missing something? Asking as I use the comments for some of my older cards with regards to damage, miscut, etc. especially when I have them in my S/T list. I would want to make sure the other person know ahead if they are looking at condition and I have the notes there.....hate to dissapoint someone after they offer a trade and say.....Oh wait...that's in bad shape (yes I do adjust the condition as I feel appropriate to the card, so I know they see that)

I will withhold from entering my 3 or 4 cards from this set until your work is complete. I never thought I would see the day where I don't mind cards like these, but it has kind of happened since I came back to the site. They're actually, dare I say...fun to look for?!?!
Thanks for putting in the work Dan, and everyone else contributing scans and knowledge.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
