1982 Fleer Baseball Forum

Greetings,

Does anyone know the origin of these cards?  Why would Fleer decide to change/airbrush the cap color?  I assume that when they airbrushed the cap color, the cap logo was airbrushed over?

According to the "Dressed To The Nines" Uniform Database, in both 1981 and 1982, the Twins wore white at home with a Red Cap, and Powder Blue on the road with a Dark Navy (or black) cap.  So, the Dark Navy (or black) cap is correct.  Why would Fleer decide to change it?

Anyone have any more info about this?

My guess is since some of those photos were taken so far away from the action, the red allows you to see the cap clearer. The dark cap gets easily lost in the crowd on card #555.

If you examine a large sample of them, you'll see that the red cap cards all have a portion of dark cap visible and the amount varies. This tells me that the dark cap was the original.

Then there is the issue of the visibility of the T logo on the cap. A rare version exists without the T and a slightly less rare version only shows a spec of white in the T.
