First, PSA refers to these variations as "fingers". They are just debris that got on the printing plates. There are a few throughout the set. Personally, I think it's ridiculous that they got called a variation. But, who am I...

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

What the..... I saw that as I was examining and thought......nawwww that can't be the difference, that in no way resembles a "hand" I did google and see something about "finger" but again......yeah. Thanks for the help! Apparantly I have a fingerless worthless card. :)

Yeah, who came up with "hand"? Even "finger" is a stretch.

Thanks for the idea. I have some cards with creases which I will now sell on Ebay as "variations". So I guess all the wax stained cards I have can also be listed as variations. I also have some with what I call "printer's dimples", more variations, I guess. Crap on a card is not a variation.

Right on, NJDevils. Absolutely absurd. Who was the "King of the Card World" that decided this was a variation? I guess we'll have to go back and add about a billion variations to every vintage set in the database.

You may have also just answered a question from June 2013. I immediately remembered this old forum post when I read about these fingers. I wonder if that explains the mystery B version of this Jefferson card. (A was Pirates back, C was Blue Jays back). Could B have been fingers too, like Matthews?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

IIRC, the "finger" was on the fronts of the cards. Of course, this was 35 years ago, and my memory may be a little faulty.

Your memory isn't too bad...lol. Some cards had the "hand/finger" on the front and some were on the back (see prior post).
