Can someone please give me a good reason as to why these are listed on the site? I understand if there's something I'm missing about the distribution of these, but in my eyes they fall into the same category as 7/11 cups or jello molds (sorry Bruno).

Certainly not a card. I'm not picking on you jasongerman9 because I see this sort of post come up frequently so it is just a question because I don't understand.

Who gives a diddly who if something like this is on the site? I never notice them. Is it more work for someone? Is there a fear that additions of this sort might slow down the database? 

Pretty much every time these are brought up I have never noticed them so I really don't understand the issue. Again, not trying to stir the pot just curious what difference these things make.

I didn't notice until I was browsing. Anyway, I think asking that's a fair question, and one that will net you quite a few different answers. Here's mine:

This is a trading card database. Not a sports collectible database. At some point, there has to be a line drawn as to what is documented here and what isn't. And Admin has put in guidelines to do just that. As far as why sticking to those guidelines matters so much to me, well...

How many times does someone say this is a wonderful resource, greatest card site on the internet, etc.? I know I will always say that this is the greatest trading card site out there, bar none. And as a result, I think that people are taking notice. New members are contributing and joining each day. We are (and I say "we" because this is a collective, sometimes dysfunctional, family) quickly becoming a go-to hobby resource. Go ahead and Google this set - 1990 Good Humor Big League Bats. The first result is the TCDB checklist for them! And that's wonderful.

However, I also believe that means we have a standard to uphold. We are gaining credibility in the trading card world, but that credibility can be lost. When guidelines are ignored, when attention isn't paid to the details, when things are let go and there are seventeen fingers in the pie all doing different things, then things get messy, credibility is lost, and this hobby resource turns into just another website.

Is this ice cream stick set going to make or break the Database? Absolutely not. But the largest avalanche starts with the smallest snowflake (you can insert your own analogy here). And I believe that if we want to keep this resource and site the best it can be, the guidelines should be adhered to as closely as possible. I will add that I didn't make a forum post to create trouble or call anyone out or anything like that. Before I submit any IRs, I figured I would see if anyone knows anything about these that I don't which would allow for inclusion here.

Oh, edit to add that yes, I think that leaving items like this would make others believe that these items are okay, and could lead to more getting listed, which then does turn into more work for members to remove them, but that's a fact of the matter anyway.

And from the FAQ:

Other items made by card companies, sold via card retailers, and authenticated by card grading companies are also allowable.

I know that is an "AND" statement, and logically, means that all three must be met, but Admin has consistently shown in the past (recently) that it's more of an "OR" statement. Stuff made by non-card companies that get graded are allowed. COMC is considered a card retailer (and they have some strict guidelines as to what they sell - if you've ever read them - they don't even sell "broders", but we list them here).

Personally, I don't like them being here. However, I see Admin leaving them due to them being listed and sold on COMC.

My question would be are the Edward Vela cards a card for the database

Years ago I had several  2-1/2" x 2-1/2"  pictures of football players on wood from a woodburning set.   Not sure of the size but around that size.  The ones I had was not burned.   Just the picture printed on the wood.

I'll say again PSA Graded is NOT a singular criteria.  They grade a lot of non-card items, including POSTAGE STAMPS and CURRENCY.

Card or not, with Tram being my childhood sports hero I would love to have that!
