The box bottoms are actually cards made by the manufacturer as "Cards" and are even advertised as such (usually on the side of the boxes). This is literally the item that helps keep the pack on the rack without falling off. When I was at Star Co., we had cards like this made for a couple sets that we were putting in Toys R Us. They were simply part of the packaging and not part of the set (those sets were also released in the smaller bags heat sealed without that "card").

And I see someone already moved the post to 1977 for you.
