I was able to purchase a couple boxes of cards and this set was one that was included. On TCDB the set is listed but the numbers here do not match with the numbers on the cards. It looks like the set numbers are uniform numbers, everything else on the card is in Japanese. See Scan

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

If you are intending to scan the set in I recommend we leave it right now until you are done as even the names are in Japanese Script. Unless you speak Japanese the uni numbers are about the only thing that could help you scan the right guy on the right card.

I agree, I do not speak Japenese or read it, so it will be a mystery.

I believe we have a couple members who could help reading the text, but if you want to work on it yourself you can use an online OCR site. I've had good results with them in the past. A Google search for Asian character OCR will give you several to choose from. I think this is one I've used in the past:

You upload an image and it gives you the electronic text that you can cut and paste into Google Translate. Once you figure out which section of the card is the player name it should be fairly easy to run through the set by uploading an image that is cropped to that section for each card.

I'm assuming someone already fixed whatever was wrong with the checklist. Everything looks right for a Takara Pro-Baseball set.

I would like to upload the scans for the set but can't match the cards with the checklist.

I gave it a shot with the card image you posted here Mark, looks like the large font right above the jersey number is the name. Google Translate returns "Kiyohara Yuichi" which matches what is shown for card 61.
I know the database can handle playing card suit symbols in number fields, I wonder if there would be any value to including the original Japanese text in the name field, or as an 'alias' on the player's page.

[Edit: I just looked at a couple player's pages and see that someone thought of it before me. All of these guys have their names in the original Japanese characters listed as an alias. So there is another way to verify the cards, just compare the name on the card to the alias on the player's page.]

Like you pointed out, the numbers on the cards were used for the checklist. Just assume they are correct and upload your scans if you don't want to go through the hassle of translating them yourself.
