1971 Topps Baseball Forum

Aside from normal wax packs, wasn't this set also sold in clear cellophane packaging with three separate card stacks within the whole pack?  I also seem to remember seeing these cards sold in a small box with a cellophane window, similar in size to a box that holds a deck of regular playing cards.  Does anyone remember this?  How many cards were in each type of packaging?  Did this packaging start with the 1971 set?  I also recall that there was always one card either in the box or cellopack that had a hole punched in it.  Of course, the cellopack was usually hung on a hook where I saw them, but I can't remember if it was the reason for the punch hole,  I remember a store that sold them:  the Rowe-Manse Emporium with two levels and a front and back entrance at the Styretowne Shopping Center in Clifton, NJ.  The lower level lead to a large parking lot which had the Rizzuto-Berra Bowling Lanes on the opposite end.  I found this article that refreshed my memory regarding the shop:

I remember buying both packs and the box of cards in the summer of 1971.  I don't remember ever seeing the 3  rack pack of cards until '75 or maybe'76.  Come to think about it, '71 is the only year that I remember the box.  I remember buying a cello wrapped pack of cards in 73 but I don't remember ever seeing anything but wax packs in 72.  I bought the wax packs at the Key Rexall drug store and the boxes and later cello packs at the Woolworths.  (In Lawrence, Kansas). Chuck provided the images and that's how I remember the box but I would have guessed there were 25 cards, not 30. I've got a trade going with ravenfaith77 and he'll be receiving 3 of those 1971 cards I bought back then as a 10 year old kid.

54 cards for only 39 cents! 30 cards for a quarter! I miss the 70's.

Great job, those were the kind of pics I was looking for under Packing in the 1971 set.  I wasn't crazy after all!  I think Topps used to put T. Munson on top in the three-stack cello packs.  The only question left is the punch hole ... I'm positive some cards had them.
