1966 Topps Baseball Forum

I was sorting my 1966 Topps Baseball cards. I noticed that I have some with a "newer" pink/white with black lettering backs. Actually the white was whiter compared to other cards. Maybe age, wear etc on the "grayer" whitish backs ? So I did some research, no indication of whiter white vs. grayer white back differences ever produced. However, I found that there were supposedly 11 fakes made, stars of course. Anybody else have any info on this???

 Topps made 11 reprinted of 1966 baseball cards that are identical front and back to the original cards. The reprints some names are. Mays, Mantle, Rose, Koufax, Palmer, Jenkins, Clemente, Aaron, G. Perry, Williams, and McCovey.

1966 Topps had cards printed on both a grey and a white stock. The white stock shows as more pink on the back. Post number 8 on this thread http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=235223 has a great picture of the card stock differences.

when it comes to wonder about fakes or reprints of vintage cards  Do what I was told when a guy was shown  a counterfeit card.  

"If it is 99% centered it might be a fake Most were off either top to bottom or  left to right."

For him know this he was a machinist and he  had a mic,  he would measure card,   border,  and thickness  over time cards he said should get thicker not thinner 

Ah Ha.....Grey stock and white stock, that's good to know. Wonder what stock the reprints were printed on? Same as the originals?

 That is interesting. But saying it's a fake because it's too centered could be a bad mistake. It's easier to spot the difference by looking at the layering and fiber of the card stock & the printing style with a jewelers loop. Add the blacklight test to that and that is how fakes are spotted. The info on the inks use throughout the years compared to now is vast. You can look all this up.

I think I could pull out some cards I've gotten from my father from the 50s & 60s that have never seen the light of day and have only been handled a few times that are centered. That he would call fakes by just measure them. He sounds like a good machinist. But paper and printing through the years can not be compared to metalworking presagers.  There is a lot more to it than just the size. 

this was in the 1980's   and the first test.  but when I said centered I mean centered   if .252 space at top then .252 at botton
