Hi all,

See the story below about the white back version of this set that never came to distribution as a separate factory set. Supposedly ~20 or so of this version exist. 

eBay Auction with History

Interested to hear what others think in terms of the background story and scarcity. The part that I'm looking for confirmation or insight is to the fact that these were forgotten to be distributed, later destroyed where a few survived and re-surfaced in the hobby.

I have the Ryne Sandberg version of this card in my collection.

Not sure if I would take the word of anyone who wraps rubber bands around cards.

I'd confirm the history before spending that kind of money. I'm with Joe, though, for someone who claims to have owned a card shop to be displaying cards in rubber bands makes me question even more. 

Why would a "factory" set be hand-cut?  Why would a "factory" set even have the dashed cut lines?

I can't vouch for the story and w/o clicking on the link, I suspect it is 1 of 2 sellers, both of which have essentiually tried to force a market price on their cards by keeping the ask prices high enough to capture a few player collectors.  Most are grossly overpriced in my opinion.

I have several garvey singles that were obtained for well under $10 each (one cost me a buck) and was pleasantly surprised to learn not that long ago that I have the entire set as well.  I have had it for a while, so I suspect it was an early ebay purchase that just got put away for years.

I have wondered about this set as well. In my research this is the only place I have found with someone legitimizing the exsistance of the set. I have one of Gwynn in my PC. I think I paid a total of $8 for it.

I take into consideration that the writer of this article contacted the person who is selling them on Ebay amd after all... People lie. 

That full sheet pictured in the article is not a "factory set" sheet. It's blurry but it looks like a card art sheet. The card designer sends the card art sheet to the box manufacturer to be used in the production of the Kraft boxes.
