I think much of the problem is that members think that the Forums is where they can initiate changes. Yes, some additions can be introduced here, edits through the IR system. But for changes to site Rules & Guidelines, there is only one place and that is with Admin. As Dan said, the OP's question was answered early on in the thread yet some insist on making this a discussion of what they think is wrong with the Rules Admin has made.
His site, his rules. You are a guest to his site and you can leave whenever you wish. Admin does a lot to make this site a place we all want to stay but if one of his rules really disgusts you, then you have a decision to make.
I don't like all the rules that are in place. On this one, I would think like Billy but really don't care as it does not affect me in the way I collect. I didn't state my opinion because this discussion has frequently come up with the same results. I don't like that we call sets Ultra and not Fleer Ultra but that was settled a long time ago and I am still here. There are other issues that have come up in the past. The only way any were resolved was by contacting Admin and making a case for why the Rule maybe should be reconsidered. He does listen to well stated cases but I somehow suspect he tires of the constant opinions that look more like complaining and bickering, on the same issues that come up every 6 months.
Simply by reading this thread (and the other thread) it is easy to see those who dedicate their time to helping improve this site following Admin's wishes and those who want this site to be changed to their ways of collecting disregarding Admin's Rules & Guidelines. I thank the former group; the latter group, well....

Really? I don't see where my question was answered by anyone. You quote the FAQ but the FAQ is the problem.
"The FAQ does not specifically define what "team listed" means...some consider "team listed" to mean "Drafted by" and some consider it any mention anywhere on the card."
To clarify terminology, there's a difference between a team being "listed" and a team being "mentioned". If someone asks, "What team does John Smith play with?" A valid reply would be, "He's listed with the Broncos.", meaning he's listed on their roster. You wouldn't say, "He was drafted by the Colts.", that doesn't actually answer the question.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

The team named on the card it he team that should be associated in the database.
Is that wording better?

This topic is not my beef, so chiming in wasn't necessary.
However, I do believe this site needs a "cooling-off period". There are way too questions asked, suggestions made, comments relayed that do not get a complete or accurate answer. Everybody has some bit of blame, I'm probably near the top of the list. I know ADMIN is the "boss" with very hard working helpers, the L8s do their best. But as a few members have recently noted, maybe ADMIN should look at the guidelines, rules and FAQ for amendments of the time. He is a busy man, and certainly doesn't need a "boatload" of PMs. BUT, What if a few designated helpers like Dan or Jason, had the duty of relaying membership concerns to ADMIN? At least that might unclutter the forum from any bad blood. Just a thought. , lol.

Right. Because then people could direct their anger and disagreements directly at a few individuals, who, on top of working 40+ hour weeks, raising families, maintaining some sort of social life in a world ruled by a pandemic, and dealing with any number of personal issues outside of collecting, dedicate their little free time to not only maintaining their own collection but to trying to help others on this site.
I can't speak for anyone else, but no, I think I'll pass on that.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Jason echoed my thoughts on this precisely. I'll pass.

And I think the problem is not so much as anyone questioning something, especially when it is a new member (though reading the FAQ should be first thought), it is when the same question that has been asked many times over and discussed at length, is answered with Admin's ruling on the subject but then becomes a place for the same members to once again voice their opinions of why Admin should really change their ruling to those opinions that differ from the rules.
If someone asks a question that is not in the FAQ nor has ever been ruled on, then the thread can be useful to consider all opinions before approaching Admin with the idea. But when Admin has already been asked about something and has ruled how it shall be, why would any L8 want to take it forward one more time to get the same ruling he already knows will result? All of you who don't agree with this particular rule in this thread, or any other rule that has been stated over and over again, need to ask yourselves that.
On an aside, maybe the Forum for the Site Forum should have a very apparent link to the FAQ so that someone who is about to ask why might think of looking it up before asking? Just a thought.

Not for nothing, but EVERY page here at TCDB has the FAQ link on it, it's at the bottom of the page under the General Info header. Every page.

Unfortunately it is quite apparent that no one looks at the directory at the bottom of the page. Look how often members need to be directed to it, be it for Things to Do, Glossary, Stats, Permissions, Goals, and yes, FAQ, just to name a few. Everyone's first impulse when asking themselves why is to ask it in the Forums. I just think if it was glaring in their face when they go to ask a question, just maybe they would look it up. It was just a thought.
