1997-98 Score Hockey Forum

While working on scanning my Messier cards I ran across an entry for 97-98 Score Epix that I did not have on my checklist.  No pics posted, nothing on Beckett.  Anyone know anything about this Epix set?  Same number as Messier's Pinnacle Epix cards...

First I have ever heard of it. Try Cardboard Connection they might have some info, but my gut tells me that may be a rouge set. I have been wrong before tho. So ........................ =)

If it's anything like the baseball version, Epix was a set that was inserted across multiple Pinnacle/Score brand products.  I don't remember the breakdown for the baseball, there was either different subsets and one was inserted into each product, or different parallels and one color was available per product.  It was a very confusing set to chase, and I've noticed that the listings for the baseball sets have been changed and updated on this site a couple of times trying to get them right.

Yep, Celtic hit the nail on the head with this one. This was issued during our big hockey era. There were different types for each player - I don't have the listings here for Yzerman (as to which product had which "type"), but I have listings in my database for Pinnacle, Pinnacle Certified, Score, and Zenith. Now, off to the old Beckett magazines:

Pinnacle Certified:
1-6 - Play
7-12 - Game
13-18 - Season
19-24 - Moment

Score:
1-6 - Game
7-12 - Season
13-18 - Moment
19-24 - Play

Pinnacle:
1-6 - Season
7-12 - Moment
13-18 - Play
19-24 - Game

Zenith:
1-6 - Moment
7-12 - Play
13-18 - Game
19-24 - Season

The base version was Orange, then there were Emerald and Purple versions. So, there are 12 cards of each player, numbered E-1 to E-24.

Kudos to Celtic and vrooomed! Mystery solved.  

I think for the purpose of my collection, since I have all the Messier issues and they are all branded as Pinnacle, I will simply classify them as Pinnacle, regardless of which product they may have been include in originally.

Mike - I think Beckett did that at some point (said, since they all look the same, and in the after-market cannot tell which one came from which product, they will all be listed together). But, thanks to me being a pack rat, we have the historical data to checklist them properly here (or least indicate which product they came out of).

That actually looks less complicated than the baseball ones are.  Those also included cards released in Summit and Score Rookie/Traded as well.

Thank god Ranford wasn't a "big" star back then, LOL, and mm-11 fantastic work if you have all of the Messier cards, your collection MUST be impressive. =)
