1961 Topps Baseball Forum

This was the last of the '60s sets that I started collecting.  There was no particular reason for this set being the last with cards to enter my collection, but I now have more '61s than I do '63s. 

The 1961 Topps set was the first set to include cards for the Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins teams.  It was also the first Topps baseball set to include checklist cards that served no other purpose than to account for your collection. 

To my knowledge, it was also the year that Topps went to 5-card nickel packs from 6-card nickel packs in previous years.  1-card penny packs were also available.  There were also 2 different insert sets to collect that year: Topps Stamps, and Topps Magic Rub-offs.

What are your thoughts on the 1961 Topps baseball card set?

The '61 set has three solid rookie cards that I still need to purchase; Ron Santo, Juan Marichal, and Billy Williams.  It is a nice vintage set with many hall of fame players, and also seems to be one of the more budget friendly sets of the 1960's.  I would rate the 60's sets from least favorite to favorite, in this order;  1969, 1968, 1967, 1962, 1961, 1966, 1964, 1960, 1963, 1965.  Just my opinion....
