CollectorTBNL, I may be wrong and am certain that I did a random check of these awhile back and I believe you're right. The confusion I believe comes from them being noted as either "Hockey Sticks" or "Text", but I don't believe I've run across one card logged as both.

There isn't a "1990 text" version. The text one is 1991 and doesn't have any gaps in it, which the hockey sticks, baseballs, comic ball, etc. all have. The descriptions of each are below the dropdown on the checklist view.
1990 Hockey Sticks
Pattern on the rink shaped hologram on the back is the words "UPPER DECK" on one or two lines with a large block font "90" and crossed hockey sticks in the gap area, and "UPPER" and "DECK" are aligned in the same direction on each line
1991 UPPER DECK
Pattern on the rink shaped hologram on the back is repeating lines of "UPPER DECK" with an occasional "91" mixed in, and "UPPER" and "DECK" are aligned in opposite directions on each line
1990 Baseballs
Pattern on the rink shaped hologram on the back is the words "UPPER DECK" on two or three lines with baseballs in the gap area, and "UPPER" and "DECK" are aligned in opposite directions on each line
1990 Comic Ball
Pattern on the rink shaped hologram on the back is the words "UPPER DECK" on at least three lines with a line of repeating small "90" and carrots in the gap area, and "UPPER" and "DECK" are aligned in the same direction on each line

Hey Ed,
That makes sense. The drop-down doesn't even have a "1990 text hologram", but all those cards do appear under "1990 hockey sticks style".
So perhaps just a matter of editing the notes2 fields?
I'll go over my IRs and close out any "missing" that can be attributed to a wrong/inconsistent note before anyone adds them.
I'll put in a new IR to update all "1990 text hologram" notes2 fields to "1990 hockey sticks style"

In a recent trade I sent these six that are logged as "1990 Text" - #54, #63, #178, #344, #352, #354, and #522.

Thanks for noting this.
If i end up working on the IR, I will just go through the entire checklist and fix them all.

It might be tough on older scans that aren't large enough to trigger the zoom feature, but please confirm the direction of "UPPER" and "DECK" on the ones marked as "1990 Text" before marking everything as hockey sticks. If they're facing the same direction on each line, it's the 1990 hockey sticks. If "UPPER" is one way then "DECK" is upside-down next to it, it's the 1991 text.
1990 Hockey Sticks Example:

I couldnt find any cards in the database indicating VAR: 1990 Text so looks like that issue has been fixed now. I did notice that some cards don't have either the Comic Ball or Baseball VAR's included and in some cases both of those VAR's are missing ...... looks like the 1990 Hockey Sticks & 1991 Text variations are included for every card though. Wondering if that's because certain VAR's don't exist for some of the cards or if the VAR's that are missing for those cards is a mistake. Also, pardon my ignorance but WTF is an IR anyways :-)

We don't assume that every card came in every VAR and we add them when requested
IR = Inaccuracy Report. There's a link on every card and set.

So what is this one?
It's the same card with the picture of the hologram at different angles. It's obviously not 1991 or Baseball, but I don't see carrot sticks, though I see a lot of orange lettering. I vaguely see the shape of a V that I always assume are hockey sticks. Am I right?

While I understand the reasoning for not making assumptions that all 4 variations exist for every card, hopefully logical deductions can be made at some point. I presume that was the case when it was decided to update all the cards from "1990 Text" to "Hockey Sticks" and also when the "Hockey Sticks" and "1991 Text" variations were added. Since the cards were produced in sheet format, highly doubtful that the existence of the "Comic Ball" and "Baseball" variations are totally random. I don't know if there's a way to find out what cards were included in each sheet but if there is then perhaps that could help. Given the slow and arduous task of depending on IR requests to add VARs, this set very likely won't be fully updated in my lifetime ..... if ever. LOL!
