1990-91 Upper Deck Hockey Forum

The time has come for us to swarm on this one. Over the years, there have been requests for the hologram variations to be added to these 2 sets. We were given solid information a while back regarding the "1990 text" and "1991 text" hologram versions spanning the entire set (with one of our trustworthy hockey collectors verifying that that had seen all cards in both versions), therefore, we were able to add the second VAR and format the set accordingly.

At that time, there were some members who asked about the "other" holograms and (relatively) recently we received an IR with specific examples listed of what that member has in their collection. It's a great start, but if the entire set has all the holograms, adding the 50-70 currently reported and then adding the rest in bits and pieces will be a never-ending project. I want this to be as short-lived as possible.

I have created a Google doc that (should be) is open to all who have the link. Before giving the link, here's the rule:

1 - If you have or can see one of the hologram versions, put your TCDB username in the corresponding cell. Please do NOT put your username there if you merely think it exists. (If you are looking at images on COMC or ebay, first good luck, and second, just enter COMC or ebay instead of your username.)

I like this idea! I'll pull mine out and hope to work on these as I can. Is there a deadline? I go on vacation this week for 10 days. 

Your IR was the one this post was based off of, and I already put what you reported in the google sheet. Of course, your IR was put in two months agai, so if you've added cards from this set to your collection, please do let us know.

I wasn't really going with a deadline on these. Usually there is an initial flurry of activity followed by my "hey, anyone else?" post, a little more activity, then the final call. One the activity stops, then I add the known VARs.

Does anyone have a scan of the Comic Ball hologram, or a link to a card that clearly shows it? It looks like the 90 Comic Ball cards were scanned before the zoom in function was added to the database and I can't make out what the hologram looks like. I know these are difficult to scan properly, but I don't have any Comic Ball cards so I don't know what I should be looking for. I do have some with the baseball hologram, i'll make a note of those on the spreadsheet.

ok cool, I wasn't sure if you were just starting over from scratch or what. 

How's everyone doing on these? Anyone look through COMC yet? Are the hologram difference visible on COMC?

Good timing on discovering this thread. I was just reviewing a Hand-collated set and remembered seeing/hearing something about these holograms. After going through the set, and my singles box (approx 900 cards in total), I found 28 'variants', mostly 'Comic Ball'. Thanks to sonician's post with the pictures, and magnifying glasses with LED Light it wasn't too onerous.  I have entered on the spreadsheet.
