How does one tell the difference between hobby and retail for this set? I know that the rookies aren't serial numbered for the retail version, but what about the rest of the set? If I have two commons of the same card, one from Hobby and one Retail, which is which?

The veteran cards are exactly the same in both hobby and retail. The RC cards are the only difference in the two sets.

If that’s the case, shouldn’t the retail be a partial parallel set, rather than a full parallel set? I realize this is a monster of a project to take on, but it seems to me that for accuracies sake it should be changed. Right now it appears (just like the OP thought) that there are two distinct versions of every base card.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Seems logical to me as it is misleading for sure.

There should not be instances of the same exact card being listed on here more than once. If that means a big effort to get this set cleaned up, so be it. We've handled bigger efforts. (We can also ask for assistance or guidance from Admin.)

Dan, if you're willing to answer a ton more questions for me throughout the process, I'm willing to get started on this project.

Are we sure it wasn't something subtle like card thickness or the color of the logo? I know in some of the Pacific Hockey sets, the only difference between hobby and retail was that the foil was gold for hobby and silver for retail...and Panini has done several annoying sets where the only difference is how thick the cards are. (2013-14 Titanium, 2017-18 Essentials come to mind)

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. Billy, I had the same thoughts. Looking at a comparison of what COMC calls Base and Retail on my computer doesn't show me any difference - even in the little letter on the back at the bottom. Obviously this doesn't help if the difference is in thickness.
Searching online hasn't netted me any answers to this question either.

Here's where we are at with this set:
Currently, 100 IRs are in awaiting Admin approval to remove the scans in preparation of collection info transfer and deletion. This was after I discussed with Spaz and he pointed me towards Beckett's write-up, which stated there was no difference in the Hobby and Retail sets except rookie SN. I have had continued dialogue since then with Admin, who is still concerned that there may be a difference - he used the price gaps in the two Emmitt Smith cards linked above to point that out.
So, at this point, does anyone reading this forum have at least some of these in hand one way or another? That's really the only way to tell for sure. Really the only difference at this point, I believe, could be thickness, which is impossible to tell on a 2D scan/photo. I'll go through some collection info this weekend and directly message members, but if anyone can help out prior to that it would be appreciated.
