Bought a blaster box at Target this weekend. Says on the box "Find 3 exclusive 1988 Topps Big Foil cards inside!"

Now, in the box are 7 factory packs, unopened. Opened all of them and sure enough, 3 Big Foil cards found. Question is, how can Topps promise 3 of these (at a stated 1:3 ratio) on these seven packs? 

3 Big Foil cards, no more, no less.

The packs are probably marked for the sorter to read.

Their ratio is 1:3 packs overall, not just one blaster. Your sample size is too small, and you might not receive any in the next box.

tpxcards: I considered that, and inspected each wrapper under magnification. There is absolutely no variation in any form from one pack to another.

Mike: I get that the sample size is small for expecting any given number of these inserts, however, the box clearly states "...3 exclusive topps Big Foil cards inside!", which would be an even bigger mystery if the next box had none.

I see - then the box is labeled correctly, and the packs are printed with the overall ratio. Which means someone is sitting at the factory late at night as the cards are rolled off the printer and sticking three fleshly-sealed packs into them!

That may be the actual case, Mike. Most times when special cards are promised as an incentive to buy a particular package, there is a separate packaging included containing those cards. I expected to find that, but found only unopened packs when I looked inside, and thought they must have forgotten them. My whole point in all of this is, I dislike the apparent anti-randomness employed by the manufacturer when that has been a long standing staple of pack buying- Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.
