Thanks for this thread! I too was not impressed with the update set this year, but having received a blaster and hanger box for Christmas, I decided to go ahead and put the set together. This year will be the 70th since I purchased my first baseball card and the only other time I saw this method of collation was in 1954. It kind of confused me as much then as it did this year. I do not keep my sets in binders, so I will store these by boxing them up in order, using the back of the cards as a guide.
Through the years, I kept up with collecting, but like others, it seems like the fun of it is dimishing due to many things. I find the addition of variations of cards in a set an annoyance. I don't see the need for 10-15 different variations of each card, nor do you need 20-30 (or more) insert sets for each set. I guess I can understand that the card companies have to make a profit, but turning off collectors would seem to be counter productive.
Please excuse the rambling from an old dude, but it seemed like a nice topic.
Happy New Year to all and happy trading and collecting!

I do not sell/buy cards, my sell/trade lists are for trade only. Thanks for your understanding.
