Firemedic, don’t feel bad. I’ve see them tear many people apart. Best just to know everything possible before even trying to help. Since there really isn’t a way to learn without making a mistake it’s better to just let the important people do everything. They feel better bitching about no one doing anything than giving helpful guidance to those that are willing to try.

If you are asking me then you are in big trouble.

I've been around for years, and I've still never tried a checklist for a flagship Topps or Topps Update set, because they are so complicated, and messing them up would create huge problems for literally thousands of site members. Baseball is the biggest sport in the hobby, and Topps is the primary set in the biggest sport. Not one for a novice to learn on. I think the veterans are all trying to find a nice way of saying, leave the hard, important checklists for major new releases to the experts. It's just hard to find the way to word that without being offensive. I freely admit that I'm not an expert, for a checklist with SP's, so I don't try them either, and I'm not worried about sounding offensive because I'm including myself in that novice category. Because this happens almost every year with Topps or Topps Update (or both) it gets frustrating.
If you want to learn checklists, under Things To Do at the bottom of this screen, there are 2,665 sets on this site without checklists uploaded. Look through those. Find something that might be simple, and learn from there. Some 20-card minor league set from 1999 will inconvenience a lot less people if there is a mistake made, and it's a good way to learn, so that one day you will be able to tackle one of the big ones.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I really don't see what is so complicated about entering card number, player name, team name and noting if it's a RC. Even in a flagship design of 300+ cards. I spreadsheet my binders for personal tracking. But like I said, glad I didn't try & no interest in ever trying. From reading this, the "big guys" would rather do the bulk of the work in its entirety than correct a mistake. One person mentioned it takes 30 minutes to correct an issue, I would imagine it takes more time though to create an entire CL.
I just think they're getting themselves into a catch 22. A few weeks ago a post is up about it being a member driven site and everyone should pitch in, and when people do this post happens. Which is going to for sure turn people off from wanting to help.

Been there, done that !
Kudos to BradLevi ~ switzr ~ and JennyMiller for speaking up. .....and Jim for at least attempting to right the ship.
My battles with as JM521 called them "big guys" [better watch out, that's not liked either by the "big guys] , has been well documented. Sorry to say my losses far outnumber my wins. lol . I will say that many of the "big guys" are trying to keep the site in the vision of the creator, BUT have a poor performance with dealing with members and the way they are spoken to. I suggest taking a course to better their dealings with the community. In my profession if I dealt with people as some posts attest to, I'd be on the unemployment line.....fast!
With all that said, you will not find a better Card Database around, BAR NONE ! I've said many times , CLARIFICATION, is needed in many areas, add checklist making to the list, I'd stick with what YOU can do and let the integral stuff to the "big guys",,,,that's how they want it.

Sigh...I don't have a dog in this fight as I am not a "big guy", but I have been around long enough to know that the upload of a pre-formatted Excel or CSV checklist is a one-button click job to upload an entire set. Manipulate the data in the proper format in an Excel file or CSV file and click upload.
There is no automated upload tool for cards that have been omitted from a checklist. So every card omitted from that initial checklist requires no fewer than 6 button clicks + manual entry of each required field (number, name, team, NOTE1 info, NOTE2 info). When someone uploads a checklist that is, for example, missing 50 cards, they are causing someone else a considerable amount of work to produce the entire checklist because they didn't take the time to do it correctly the first time. At that point, it is easier to just delete the entire checklist and re-upload the proper file (via one-button click). Unfortunately as soon as anyone adds any information for that incorrect checklist (even just adding to wantlist), the deletion of said checklist is not possible without Admin intervention.

From an other Jim but you can call me Budler
Some inserrt set are not that easy. As I have been looking into the (football) 2007 Press Pass Gridiron Jerseys insert sets.
We have 4 Gold, Holofoil, Silver apeaar to be the same. (20 cards) The Red has 20 cards but the list is diff. These appear to be taken from Beckett. I have not find all of them to be correct and some are not correct.
Then I have find Black and Blue cards not listed here. I did a posting about it but no replies or help. These come from COMC and E-bay.
With that said maybe 2 other things could be done to help out members wanting to add check list. If these are done now just pooint me to them.
1. A llst of sites to help with the research of the set
2. An example of a excel file showing what to put in each columun

To build upon Jim's point - checklists for major releases are tough. Between SPs, different notes, and a ton of information, I wouldn't recommend starting with them. Start small with inserts and parallels of inserts. Those are smaller checklists with less information and usually the Notes are the same (or close to the same) between cards. I would encourage anyone to start there and work their way up before tackling a 300+ card major release, simply to better grasp the concept and details needed.

I would never even think of uploading a Topps checklist. I would mess it up so bad.

I THINK EVERYONE COMPLAINING HERE SHOULD TAKE A MINUTE TO REALLY READ AND ACTUALLY LISTEN TO WHAT HAWKEYE IS SAYING IN HIS POST:

I did have a dog in this fight because I was as what you would be calling a "big guy". I loved working to improve this site. And trust me correcting checklists like these being discussed takes a whole lot more time to correct than it does to correctly prepare one in the first place. Another thing, if the correct checklist is not done to start, there is much more chance of missing some of the needed corrections.
You'll notice I said I loved earlier in the post. Let me explain the phrasing. I spent a lot of time working on IR's and other things I could to try to assist and improve the site. I have almost completely removed myself from the site(I check the forums ocassionally to see if things have improved and from what I see they haven't. It got to a point where more and more of the IR's were completely self serving requests(more like demands) from members that things had to be immediately added for them. It was often a single card from a set with absolutely no research was done by the poster to see if there was more to the set. This is what the hard working members you so derisively call "big guys" are doing for you to truly improve this site. Another reason I have removed myself is the increasing snarkiness on the forums where posters complain(much like the IR's) that things are not being done for them. When suggestions are made on how the poster could actually and correctly do things to improve the site, the posters ignore the suggestions. Instead they continually keep posting useless drivel just to hear themselves talk and never actually doing anything to positively contribute to this great site.
I have been avoiding posting responses to these posts because I didn't want to be too negative(some of the things I wanted to say would have probably gotten me banned) but I';m to the point now I don't care. It is time for everyone to realize and appeciate how much work is being done to improve this site.
