The powers that be at the time seemed to find it important enough to make sure that in the second series he got a card in his Knicks uni after the series 1 mention of the trade.

Usually a mention once per set suffices, just found it a bit odd.

At that time when there were two series most traded players got two cards. 

I always found it odd when a player gets a card in series 1 and 2 and he DIDN'T get traded.  The one that comes to mind right away is 1990-91 Pro Set Mike Hough.  I know it happened in basketball, too but examples are escaping me.

A while back, Billy actually answered this one for me as well.

It is when the team has a major uniform change.

Think Detroit Pistons in 1996-97(?) cards from memory.

That's not always the case though.  1998-99 Upper Deck Chris Anstey is a basketball example.  No new jersey, no new team, no new number.  Just 2 base cards of a player that didn't make a big impact.

That's the exception, most of the time it's a new team or new uniform. I can think of three examples of a player getting a card in both series without any change. I just scanned both Chris Morris cards from 1994-95 Upper Deck Special Edition, the only time it ever occurred in an insert to my knowledge.

I guess in the thousands of multi series sets out there, sometimes mistakes/oversights happen. Or maybe there are just huge Chris Anstey or Chris Morris fans involved!

(Or maybe the name Chris is key...)

I apologize for the interruption - but I thought this thread was going to be about the Charley Smith trade of December 8, 1966 when he was traded by the St. Louis Cardinals to the New York Yankees for Roger Maris.

Upper Deck did this a few times in their giant sets of the late 2000s (the ones over 1000 cards), probably because they ran out of ideas on who to include.
