1992-93 Hoops Basketball Forum

Saw this on Ebay awhile ago (it's still there). If you look at the 2nd image, it shows the card has a Skybox seal stamped on it. Anyone know where this came from? Should it be listed? The card is the NNO one under Promos.

I don't think it should be listed because the auto (from my understanding) is certified by the grader, and not as part of the promo. To me it's the same as having any card listed as an AU because we managed to get one signed by a player.

How were they distributed?

I see many card company AU inserted cards that people get certified (i never understood why). This one since it has the Skybox stamped seal on it, tells me it was signed for the company and distributed how? I dont know. 

These were inserted into packs. Not a promo, it's an insert.  I can't remember which series, I used to know. The Skybox seal is what let's you know it was the pack pulled version rather than IP.  

This was only the second year of autographs issued in NBA packs. The first were in 1991-92 Fleer.

We need that information before we can list it. Was it in the same product as the card itself? Was it released the next year (like Score did with Knoblauch)? Was it 5 years later? Was it part of a buyback program where there were other cards and players involved?

As you can see, there are far more questions about its origin that need to be answered before we can do anything about it.

Find some packaging for the set. I have not opened a pack of this set since probably 1997. My vague memory is that it was in series 1, as I don't know if I ever opened series 2 packs...but at this late date I can't remember for sure. I remember being somewhat disappointed I didn't pull the Ewing.

I know they also had a John Stockton autograph but I think it was in the 1993-94 set.

Magic, Ewing, Stockton had AU inserted cards into series 2 packs. The Ewing card i am wondering about is the same as the NNO Promo card (the site has no image for it, but comc does)

I just thought since it had the Manufacturers stamp on it, it may be something that was sent to dealers or handed out somewhere? Just curious myself also.

Ahhh... probably. Now I'm not so sure. I knew there was one autograph, but I don't know if there are two. The Skybox seal means it's legit, but I'm much less sure if of where it came from.

Legitimacy isn't really the question now. How it was distributed is, so we know where to list it. :)
