In an effort to make better contributions to this site, I'm perusing the things that need to be done and came across this 1984 Larry Bird set that needs name verification. To me, it appears to be entered correctly and all that needs to be done is the pressing of the verification button. However, I wanted to take this to the jury for second opinions before doing so. If there's one thing I've learned from ranfordfan, it's to ask more questions now rather than to try and undo something later!
So...thoughts? All scans are uploaded for referencing as well. I'm leaving for work here shortly but may try and make any amendments tonight when I get off if they haven't been done so already. Thanks in advance!
Jason

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Having worked on several Star sets (both in collating for the company and formatting checklists here), I agree 100% with Billy.

Welp from the FAQ - "How do I edit the name associated with a card?" I think Admin prefers the text on the card front, unless I missunderstand:
"For sets dedicated to a single person where the fronts have descriptions rather than the name of the person (example: 1993 Pacific Texas Express), the name fields should reflect the descriptions on the fronts of the cards"

Then they are still wrong. Bird's name isn't on the front of any of the cards. The closest any card comes to being right is #3, and even then it's incomplete.

Based on this found in the FAQ I would say Admin trumps all. Card front info in the Name field, team is correct and then manually linked to Larry Bird (and others as needed). I would have agreed with the others because I did just that for the several insert sets in Fleer Ultra BUT they did not have other info on the front like these. Some have descriptions in Note2 but that was taken from the card backs.

My thoughts for the set being correctly listed were based off of the FAQ. However, I would also make sense to me to use the player name as "name" and the description in the Note fields. I would like to add that all of the cards are already linked to Larry Bird, so that is done.
I would agree with ranfordfan here. Dan, you're usually my go-to guy on stuff like this, but I think you also agree Admin wins. However, you're right that if the "name" should be the description, Bird's name shouldn't be in them. At least, that's how I see it! :P

Admin has stated that Name is what appears on the front.
In subsequent years, we (Star Co) put the player's name AND the description on the card front. In those cases, name can be just the player's name and then the description ("Checklist", "Personal Data:. etc.) can go in Note2. I forgot that back then (before I was there!) we just had the descriptions on the fronts.

We've had this discussion before and I thought Admin was pretty clear on how to name cards that fall into this category. I was added a Michael Jordan - Gatorade set a couple months ago and it has the same characteristics (just a description, no name on front). After reading the thread on naming cards that are in this category and the FAQ response from Admin I thought I was clear on naming. I put the description in the name field and linked the card to Michael Jordan.
Done and done, right? Nope.....as you can see it was changed.

I don't believe the Michael Jordon set is now correct based on Admin guidance. I would go in and change it but now I doubt myself. Plus, if I change it, will someone come in behind me and change it back?
Argh......what is correct?

Jordan set is no longer correct if his name is not on the fronts of those cards (really hard to see - good scans, bad cards). Please look in the change log for that set and directly contact the member who reversed your changes. See why. Talk with them about it. Dialogue is good.
