Yea, Topps has had so many interesting releases lately for reprints and "cards that never were", that I've adapted my collecting style somewhat to accomodate.  I insert all of these reprints and "cards that never were" into the original year of my collection.  Reprints are eventually replaced with originals with the reprints then going back to the set binder of the year tha the card was actually produced.  Cards that never were cannot be replaced with originals so I leave them in the year they were intended to represent.  Here are a few that are scattered throughout my original set binders:

I am generally a laid back guy. But in my running statistics and baseball card collecting, I am quite anal-retentive. Your system could well kill me. But different strokes....Enjoy.

I like the idea ToppsBawlyn.  I would probably do that if I put cards in order by set rather than player.  In times where I did sort that way, I mixed parallel cards in with the base set as a "variation" of the regular cards, just like I would if I had an error & correct version of Billy Ripken or whoever.  I even mixed Topps and Topps Chrome together in years where the numbering was the same.  So I would probably do the same with a reprint set.  Of course, I also treated insert sets like the old Upper Deck Heroes as a continuous set, because the numbering was that way, even though they spanned several years.  Now pretty much everything is by player for me though.

I seem to remember Topps doing a reprint (Archives???) set several years ago, where Ted Williams was exclusive to Upper Deck, so Topps released all the cards except Williams in packs, and U.D. used the Topps design and correct number to make the Williams card and put it into their own packs as an insert.  Does anyone else remember this?  I think I have my information right.

The set was the 1994 Topps Archives and it was a reprint of the 1954 set. In the set, cards #1, and #250 were both Ted Williams, the first and last cards.  The archives set also printed 8 cards, #251- #258 of "stars" that could have been included in the 1954 set but weren't.  (Roberto Clemente, Harmon Killebrew, Elston Howard...) Card #259 was a card of Mickey Mantle, done in the 1954 style.  At this time both Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle were under an exclusive contract with Upper Deck.  Upper Deck printed these 3 cards, #1, #250 and #259 and included them as inserts in the 1994- Upper Deck All-Time Heroes set.  Take a look at the Mantle, a scan is in TCDB.  It's a great looking card.  (I was lucky enough to find one at a show for only $2 a couple of years ago.)

 According to Beckett the set is complete with the Alex Gordon card. I am lucky enough to own one of them.  There are 4 different variations of the card. Furthermore I am lucky enough to have the entire card not one of the cutout variations.  I paid only $175 for it and his 2006 Topps Heritage card (which is a cutout version) in an auction on eBay several years back. Last time I checked the card I own which is the full card with no cutout books for just north of $500 last time I checked. Being a person who likes to complete every set I own (which is well over 1000) hence my username this card was one of the toughest cards I have ever needed to buy to complete a base set. Number 1 if you are curious is 2001 Donruss #159 RR #/500 Ben Sheets.  This card to me should not be considered an error card. Okay it is an error that was released but the card itself should not be considered an error card.  In case you are curious if I am interested in trading it or his heritage card the answer would be a huge no. Offer my $10,000 I might consider it but I would feel terrible I am price gouging the buyer. I hope this clears up some of the confusion surrounding the card.
