Does anyone know why TCDB lists the 2006 Topps Justin Verlander as a RC when he had a 2005 Topps Draft Pick card? Just asking since Ryan Zimmerman's 2006 isn't listed as a RC, but his 2005 Topps Update Draft Pick seems to count for his RC?

Topps labeled the Verlander card as a Rookie Card. I've added the Note to Zimmerman's card.

The 2006 Verlander and Zimmerman cards are not rookies. They were both included in multiple major releases in 2005. FAQ

I would have assumed the 2005 would have been the rookie card. I was just confused by the discrepancy in what TCDB called a "RC" between Verlander and Zimmerman in 2006. I would vote only the 2005 should get the 'RC' moniker...not that my vote matters that much 😄

In 2006 MLB rules for a rookie card designation went into effect. One of the rules was a player had to had played in a MLB game to be considered an RC. Many of those 2005 cards, the player had yet to have played in a MLB game. If you apply the rule retroactively, then they do not get an RC. So the card companies correctly applied the RC logos to the 2006 cards (for the most part).

Having the RC shield on a card does not automatically qualify the card to have the Note of "RC". TCDB adds that note only to the actual RCs, whether it has the RC logo on the card or not.
