Browsing through these nearly 30 year old cards and I realize, to my surprise, that I have a copy of the "black tip" flag on the Oil Can Boyd card.
1) Can this version be added as a VAR to #48
2) Anyone have any idea whey this version command such a price in the market? Seems a rather meaningless alteration, nearly nothing more than a print error.

I would think the "black banner tip" would be the correction (COR). The missing portion of the black border on the banner tip would probably be considered the error (ERR).
I looked on ebay, I've seen both versions with ridiculous prices. Of course, if you go to Sold listings you won't find any being Sold.
And like you said, it was more likely a printing error. Some debris probably got on the printing plate and kept the black ink off that area.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Added card 48b for you. Make sure it is the non-Dark logo back version.
Edit: apparently there is a black-tipped, dark-logo version on ebay. Should we be adding that version to the partial parallel set of Dark Logo cards?

That's the HOLY GRAIL according the ebay seller! :)
I'll go add the card there.
Question now becomes - is there a non-dark logo back version (before I request it to be removed)?

I would say just to remove it for now because if the card only has three copies known to exist how do we now that are variations of the card itself when so few out there.
