the scans on this set have no numbers

but some items on ebay have numbers

such as this one:

does anyone know about these?

perhaps there is a number when someone puts their specific advertisement on it?

I see a little 495 on the bottom of the Jackson you linked. That leads me to believe this may be part of a larger set but has been listed as it's own set by Burdick, and copied by literally everyone else. 

With that said, I don't have any of these, I have never seen one in person, I could be totally clueless. 

I did some reading, they were issued blank and no number.  The companies handing them out would overprint their ads in the blank area.

Could numbered one be a reprint from a later year perhaps?

I don't think PSA would have graded it as original if it was a reprint.  I believe the number and writing on the bottom is part of the overprint. And since the original cards are blank, they noted the card as being Marked (MK).
