2018 Topps Heritage Baseball Forum

1) I am VERY new here. I have also done a poor job of learning this site/how it works/networking/etc. I've decided to diligently rectify these past behaviors.

2) I initially 'joined' to actively trade with others collecting sets like my cousins & friends & I used to do (admittedly, in late 60's, 70's, some 80's). Bicycles, convenient stores (yes, one could purchase a pack of Topps cards (football & baseball for sure) at your local 'Pantry' or 'Fast Fare'); then sitting down and trading one-for-one. (Man, it was SO much fun riding to different Sunoco's to ask/beg for more & more Sunoco/DX trading stamps in '72; alas, that's a different reminisce!)

3) Does ANYone do this or attempt to do this any longer? I mean, I understand the trust factor involved here, but I also anticipate a certain rapport being built up between many of yourselves (not me....yet...of course). Does ANYone have the inclination to try? I would be a very willing (and active, I promse) participant. What/How do we go about it? I'm old (again...obviously) and am probably not as saavy technologically (hell, I'm just now gaining perspective of the fractor or refractor or superfractor or re-fried fractor concept!! Ha!!), but I do have access to answers when I need them....so, I'll get there!

4) I'm 'posting' this here for a couple of reasons: (a) This/The 2018 Topps Heritage Baseball is the first product I have attempted to collect in 30yr. (I've been working on finishing off my '73 Topps Football for instance; I meant I have not attempted a NEW product in 30yr). I chose this because I already have the original 1969 product (with 100+ duplicate/extras!) that I am very proud of!! I thought this new set would look nice right beside it (I may be wrong here....this newer stuff is MUCH heavier stock/perfect centering/etc/etc....reminds me of why I still prefer vinyl albums for music...."perfection" is not always the ideal or goal; but again, that's yet another reminisce). So, that's why I chose this 2018 Heritage product. (b) And I also whated to attempt my fanciful "old school" idea of 'trading' trading cards!! The philosophy major in me still wants sincerely to believe it can be done!!! Can't we all just trade along!?!? Ha!!

PLEASE let me know your thoughts. I am as open-minded as I am loquacious (I will curtail that some, I assure you).

Lastly, congratulate me, please. After only a few 'Booster Boxes' (I think? 8pk/Retail), I already have two ROA (Real One Auto's!): a 'regular' blue ink Clint Frazier RC (NYY) AND, just yesterday, a RED ink (#53/69) Rafael Devers RC (BOS). I do not see a Devers' on ebay....that's probably a "good" thing (for me), no? Just asking! I wonder what it's worth? I wonder should I just sell...anyone interested? These are most assuredly unchartered waters for me. Thank you.

Welcome, please look around, read the FAQ, and see how things are done. Lots of trades happen on here (there is a transaction manager, which can help A LOT if you get your collection, stuff you have available, and your wants loaded here.

If you're sincere in wanting to actively trade, then your first step is to get your cards that you have available for trading listed on your For Sale / Trade list.  Then you need to create your Wantlist. Yes, it takes time and some effort but the rewards are a hundred-fold. Our robust Transaction Manager makes trading a breeze.

Far too many people join this site and immediately (same day) want to start trading.  Thinking all they have to do is paste their Wants or Traders lists into a forum thread.  Leaving all the work and effort to the members to create trade proposals.  This method rarely (if ever) produces any results of signifigance.

Welcome Scott! This is the best card website on the internet, but there is indeed a lot to take in and figure out...it gets easier with time and use. You'll find lots of people willing to make trades and some people have been known to randomly send cards to people because they know they would want them. There's also some people who do "blind trades" which is usually just sending a group of cards without specifically picking each card...that tends to be done more with people who collect certain teams or everything in a sport, like I do. You'll enjoy it here if you have the right mindset, and it seems to me from your first post that you do.

Welcome from up here in the GWN!! As the others have stated it takes time and patience to get the rewards you are looking for. If you really love the hobby you will be hooked. I myself have been here since 2014 and still have not completed an on-site trade. A couple exchanges between friends here but until I get all my cardboard listed I do not want to jump the gun. I have four proposals already and am trying like mad to finish so they can be completed. We here are all full of answers and randoms facts of knowledge(?) LOL some of it pretaining to the hobby. Feel free to ask and poke around and if your as wise as you are old (your words LOL) you will be zooming around these halls in no time.

Welcome to the site. If you take the time to learn the aspects that can help in what you want, you will find it a great asset. You will also find many traders here of your "vintage".

If you do want to trade, there will be many who will take you upon it.  Yes, building a good reputation takes time but after a few completed trades with some of the more frequent traders, people will trust you. We have not had many bad traders; the very few we have hasd were quickly exposed in the forums adn through negative feedback.  But even before anything negative is sadi, the community usually asks if anyone else has had an issue with a particular member. More often than not, there has been a valid reason. (One of the latest ones was because the individual had died a day or two after the trade was accepted.) Do not be surprised if someone asks to receive the cards first before sending theirs.  This would only be for the first couple of trades till there is feedback on your profile.

C2Cigars (a.k.a. Chuck or other names) has accurately stated how to goabout getting trades on this site. Use the site for what it does for you and your trade partners.  Yes it takes time to load the cards you wish to trade away and those you hope to get back. But it is worth every minute you spend doing it.  And if you really have some good stuff that others want, you will soon get trade proposals. So make sure you let people know what you are collecting. It is also a good idea to give an idea of what condition you are willing to accept cards, and if any of yours are in less than EX, then just an advisory through the trade messaging capability is a good idea.  Some are less sensitive about condition especially in the vintage cards.

Enough for now except one last thing; if you can't find out how to do something after reading the FAQ, then ask.  Some members have been here since shortly after the site was created so they can usually answer most of the questions that appear.  In fact, the 3 members who responded to your post are some of the more knowledgeable in regards to the site. Dan is very patient with all newcomers; Chuck is happy to help as long as he can be miserable about it; and captkirk, well his picture says it all. Reading the Forums every day will give you insight on things that are not always apparent.

As a fellow "newbie" to the wild world of TCDB I can certify the addictiveness that you may "suffer" from time to time. Also as one nears "retirement" (whatever that now actually means) it certainly can fill an hour or two?? every now and again. Yes it does take a while to garner the courage perhaps to take that leap of faith but you soon will realize the benefits of doing so. Once your wantlist and trades are uploaded the system will do a remarkable job of matching you with others who share at least some of your interests. Thenn there is always the RAK (what I like to call the Random Act of Kindness) where believe it or not sometimes you'll just receive somethingfor no apparent reason. Everyone that I have engaged in trades with thus far have proven to more than willing and you find yourself often in a state of "debt" to one another. Anyway enough with the rambling, sometimes just a simple contact is sufficient to get the ball rolling and things do become clearer as the clock moves forward. In closing, welcome aboard and hope you have an enjoyable voyage.

Hi there -- I too was intimidated by the site's complexities (and inexplicable weirdness in spots) at first but I did kinda get the hang of it. I do find it quite difficult to match up my wants/doubles with others' doubles/wants -- perhaps I'm just a dunce but I wish there were some way to click, "Match my wantlist and forsale/trade list with others" and see a list of tradeable items. Is there any way to do this, everyone?

BUT -- wanted you to know that Heritage is the one set I collect, and I have a TON of tradeable stuff on my trade list. I hope you can let me know if you have anything I need and I'll be your first trade. Welcome.
