im not a baseball collector so my knowledge of the set isn't great, i bought a collection that had a bunch included, as im adding to my tradelist is there a easier way to decipher which version i have, like maybe the pack version has these 5 splatters, and factory has these 5 splatters?
thanks for any tips

NOPE! Just got to look at all the borders for every single card. It sucks, but that's what it is.

I have most of the pack splatters. Gonna buy a 1990 Donruss set one day just so I wouldn't have to deal with looking at them all.

I am sorry for your loss. (Of time.) It is gonna be annoying but it is the only way to do it. Maybe it was a donruss ploy to get people to look at their cards longer.

Thanks - TwinKiller. (Luke)

This is one set where I wish we would add one more version to the checklist. The I have a card but I'm not bothering to check whether it's an A,B,C or D version. I have a boat load of these not entered in the database and I may never do it just because it looks like it would be such a pain.

You will be seeing dots in your sleep. One card I had didn't match any of the 5 versions in TCDB. Also be warned, the dots look different depending on how close the card was cut to the picture boarder.
I remember finding a couple errors while opening packs and thinking I was gonna be rich like the Frank Thomas Topps No Name! Little did I realize that every card has a different version and they may still be finding errors.

I got a set of these for Christmas last year. It's a primary reason I don't add my cards on this site anymore. I think I got thru the Diamond kings and half of the rated rookies.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

It really is not that bad, Once you separate the No dot cards (not in factory sets) you are well on your way. When doing the with dot cards check the variations with corrected birthdays as some/all only got corrected in the FS. This will tell you how close to look for the FS borders. For the most part cards that come in bulk lots originated in packs. There are only a few cards from packs that have 2 different splatter patterns. To complete the FS I did it the easy way and just bought a sealed one.
