Here is a picture of a 1990 Donruss Jaime Navarro #640 with a black line through his name. I believe this might be an error/variation card as I have the one pictured in the TCDB and this one. It also coincides with other cards with the black line through their names.

Not an error we document, a printing glitch. That's just misalignment (off-register). The sheet and black printing plate/platen weren't perfectly aligned.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I'm comparing this one (Navarro) to others, two of which I have (Hickey & Morris) and this one looks messier between the letters when zoomed in on the name. Maybe that's just a resolution issue. I don't know.

I don't agree. There are several other cards with the same printing mistakes/errors. Other sites, including COMC and Beckett, which are referenced often on this site refer to these as being error cards. I feel that TCDB should be in line with those findings. Just my opinon.

The four or so recognized here on TCDB are different than this card. This card as mentioned earlier is mis-registered in the printing process, a random sort of error, print flaw, printing defect, color shift or wahtever you want to call it. The ones recognized are printed properly but have a portion of black line extended too far into some letter of the name, or across the yellow star as on card 660

At least in regards to ones listed here such as the Morris and the Hickey, the line is only through one letter. On the posted Navarro, the entirety of the black bars are shifted to the left indicating a print issue IMO. Do you have a link to those other sites documentation of them? Looked briefly and didn’t see anything

No one seemed to mention the fact that the "errors" in the 1990 Donruss cards where the lines are in the name are where the lines never disconnected. So where your card shows distinct breaks in the lines where the white of the name should be, the errors have the lines continuing to the other side, with no break. As Chuck originally, and correctly, stated, these ae simply mis-registered and not variants.

Speaking of variations, though, this is one of the sets that has versions with/without the pesky dot after the INC, isn't it?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
