This is a little off-topic from switzr1's original question but it's kind of relevant to the theme of the thread. I have been very confused about the SP, SSP, and DP designations on certain cards. I believe it's often mis-used, sometimes intentionally, by many in the hobby. I primarly collect vintage football so I don't have the same problems as modern-set builders but I do want to understand why a card recieves an SP, SSP or DP designation.

In researching why such designations exist I found this site by "nearmint" that uses actual printing sheets to analyze production stats of vintage football cards. After reviewing his site and the uncut sheets, the true meaning of SP, SSP, and DP became clear. Granted this was back before card companies intentionally short-printed cards in order to make you buy more packs.

Well at lease it not like the 1933 Goudy Lajoy card. printed on checklist but was not printed until 1934. It was complete sheets that showed this. There amoungst all the 1934 cards was a 1933 Lajoy.

I myself wait a few years to buy the SP cards a few at a time as the price falls off. I do look for bargins and Phillies 1st

I don't even remember this being a thing. I think that I just thought my Clemens had a problem.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Most notable are the Wine and Rodgers misnumbered cards. They didn't fix them, if that's what you meant.
