So I just bought, or thought I bought, the Jose Rijo error card on Ebay. The seller said he sent me the right error card, but it's the corrected version with #27 on his jersey and on the back of the card. Why would an error card show the correct number of #27 on the back?
I trust this database.
He sent me a screen shot from "becket", but not sure if this link will work.

He may have not looked close enough to what the actual error was, or bothered to match the front image. I have a Beckett guide from 1998 that lists the '24' on back as correct. Could be Beckett never bothered to change it.

He used the Becket site as the "trusted and certified" way and it looks like Becket has it wrong.

Not sure if they'll do it, but I've asked Becket to double check and fix it. The cards before and after 1989 show Rijo as number 27 throughout his career with the Reds, as does the Baseball Reference website.

Good luck on that. If Beckett actually made the change I'd be shocked. They are notorious in focusing on the people they pay them or whom have large industry influence (large dealers, manufacturers, etc.), not us peon collectors. The pic you tried to link to didn't work. Out of curiosity, when he had the listing up did it show both the front and back of the card?

According to baseball-reference, Rijo never wore the #24, so besides the fact that he's obviously wearing #27 on the front, that means the card with 27 on the back HAS to be the correct one and not the error.
I'll add that this is a good example of why I tout TCDB over Beckett's checklists. Sure, ours are crowdsourced and that means they can have errors, but we also actually fix the errors when we see them.

And fix them when they're reported. I reported some errors in Beckett's che4cklist in the 1990s and they never fixed them.
As for the card in question, have you asked the seller if they have the other version and would be willing to exchange it? I have dealt with that seller before and he's always been professional in our card transactions.

More than one person has speculated that some of Beckett's errors are there more as copy protection to combat plagiarism, than actual mistakes. Bob Lemke said SCD had done similar in the Standard Catalogs in the past.
But then, some of their errors are just from sheer apathy.

Yea, he doesn't have it. He's been cool about it and very responsive.

That's good. I just checked my extras, and unfortunately, I don't have one. I only have the 27 on back versions. Sorry I couldn't help.
